Former Colville High School three-sport standout and CHS assistant baseball coach Boo Morrison has been named to succeed Mike Bestrom as the programâs head coach. Bestrom served three years as CHS head coach. In recent seasons, he has also worked as an assistant coach in the CHS and Kettle Falls baseball programs.
Kettle Falls High dominated across the board last Friday in an impressive 35-15 non-league football win over Tonasket. The Bulldogs (1-1) rushed for 256 yards and quarterback Conner McKern passed for another 118 yards (8 of 15) and two touchdowns. âThe kids played really well,â figured KFHS head coach, Curtis Corvino. âOffensively, we set the pace of the game and were able to control the line of scrimmage.â Itâs been a long time since a Kettle Falls offense ran 66 plays in a game.
Columbia-Inchelium (1-1), coming off a lackluster 26-14 loss at Wilbur-Creston last Friday, will travel to Northport (1-1) Friday night in a key Northeast B-8 football match-up with the Mustangs. Game time is 7 p.m. Columbia-Inchelium head coach Chuck Wyborney wasnât pleased with the way his team played against the Wildcats. And the veteran coach placed the blame squarely on himself and his coaching staff.
Colville High opened the high school girlâs soccer season last week with a split of games. In their season opener on Sept. 7 against Priest River, Colville won 9-0. Striker Tasha Luu scored four goals and Dana Andres added two more. In last Fridayâs 7-1 loss at home to Shadle Park of the Greater Spokane League, Luu scored Colvilleâs lone goal in the first half. Shadle Park outshot CHS 17 to 9.
The fourth annual Balls & Chain Walleye Tournament will be held Saturday, Sept. 24. The tournament will launch at the Kettle Falls Marina (Old Kettle). The tournament was created after its founder, Casey McKern of Kettle Falls, was seriously injured in a swimming accident that left him paralyzed from the collarbone down. During his convalescence and through the challenges of recovery, the Kettle Falls community did what it always doesâcome together to help a community member and his family.
