Jeffrey G. Fisher, a resident of Spokane, passed away on June 23, 2011 in Spokane at the age of 26. He was born on Dec. 18, 1984 in Spokane, the son of Thomas Wayne Fisher and Lori Denise Munson.
He is survived by his mother, Lori Munson and husband, Scott, Chewelah; father, Tom Fisher, Omak; sister, Ashley Simmons and husband, Allen, Kettle Falls; son, Lance Baker; grandparents, Violet Fisher, Wilbur; Don and Eileen Munson, Chewelah; nephews, Chase, Talan and Devan; numerous aunts and uncles and cousins.
Caregiver charged with
criminal mistreatment
Birthdays certainly aren’t uncommon occurrences at Buena Vista Nursing Home in Colville, but last Wednesday’s celebration was far from routine.
Surrounded by friends, neighbors, social workers, nursing home staff and representatives from the Stevens County Sheriff’s Department, Kettle Falls resident Frances Swan turned 106-years-old.
With cake and gifts on hand, Swan, who the media has referred to as “the oldest woman in Washington State,” made jokes about her age.
“I’ve never been over 105 in my whole life,” she laughed.
June 24th
Guess what time it is? If that guess were it’s time for the annual Stevens County Relay for Life, it would be correct. The fundraiser is scheduled to start tonight, June 24 and end Saturday, June 25 at the Colville High School track. All proceeds benefit cancer research through the American Cancer Society.
According to SCRFL Event Chair Nikole Morrison, there are 38 teams currently registered to participate in this year’s Relay.
“I think that’s the most we’ve ever had,” says Morrison. “It’s a wonderful turnout.’
June 23rd
Colville High School graduate and former Indians’ softball standout Jennica Ebel recently completed her softball career at Spokane Falls Community College.
Ebel, the daughter of Jim and Nancy Ebel of Colville, helped lead SFCC to a fifth place finish in the 16-team NWAACC Tournament and fourth during the regular season.
According to Jim Ebel, an assistant coach for the CHS softball team, the Sasquatch had to overcome a “variety of obstacles this season,” starting with the unexpected transfer of their top pitcher.
It only got worse.

Annie Roberts Ingle died June 17, 2011 at Pinewood Nursing Home in Colville, just ten weeks short of her 100th birthday.
Annie Bryte Tutherow was born on August 31, 1911 in the farmhouse where her family lived near Crouse, North Carolina. When Annie was a little over two-years-old, typhoid fever struck her family, killing her father at age 31 and leaving her mother to raise five children on a small cotton farm.
Harley A. Passmore of Kettle Falls went home to be with his Lord on June 14, 2011. He was born in Tacoma on Jan. 29, 1939 to Margret (Richmire) and Harley Passmore. He married Susan Obermeier on July 11, 1975 and resided in Puyallup.
Ella Rhodes (Cole) Wilkie, a resident of Colville, passed away June 15, 2011 at Buena Vista Nursing Home in Colville at the age of 93. Ella was born on Oct. 14, 1917 in Medicine Hat, Alberta, Canada, the daughter of Lee Frank and Minnie (Hampton) Rhodes.
Elaine H. Verhaag, a 56-year resident of Kettle Falls, passed away on June 13, 2011 in her home at the age of 87. Elaine was born on June 24, 1923 in Spokane, the daughter of Harry William and Inez Maud (Crossett) Tucker.
She was raised and attended school in Spokane, where she graduated from West Valley High School in 1941. Following high school, she worked for Armour Foods, where she met Lawrence “Dutch” Verhaag.
Thomas “Bud” G. Clough, Jr., a resident of Colville, passed away on June 1, 2011 in Colville at the age of 73. Bud was born on April 19, 1938 in Aberdeen, the son of Thomas George and Edith (Johnson) Clough.
Bud moved often with his family as they followed work opportunities. He attended grade school in Oregon and high school in Republic, where he met his high school sweetheart, Carol Marie Hatcher.
While attending school, Bud also worked at the San Poil Lumber Yard, loading boxcars after school.
