February 7th
Linda Lou Holford, a resident of Inchelium, passed away on Feb. 2, 2012 in Spokane at the age of 63. She was born on Feb. 20, 1948 in Nespelem, the daughter of James Steven and Anna Lorene (Peone) Michel.
Everett was the son of John and Anna Marie Sells. He was born in Spokane on Jan. 7, 1932. He passed Jan. 31, 2012. He was a veteran who served in the Navy during the Korean War and was honorably discharged in December 1951.
Daniel Hopp, age 91, a long-time resident of Colville, passed away on Feb. 2, 2012 in Colville. Dan was born in Odessa, the son of Conrad and Anna Margaret (Bostrom) Hopp.
Dan moved with his family to Lamona in 1925 where he atÂŹtended school through the sixth grade and worked on the famÂŹily farm. He then attended seventh and eighth grade in Odessa. Because of the needs on the farm, he was unable to continue his formal education.

Washingtonians will not be able to take part in the Presidential Primary frenzy this spring because of a 2011 legislative decision to axe the annual rite to save a purported $10 million in the state budget. The cancellation was proposed through Senate Bill 5119 that expires in 2013, leaving a Presidential primary an option in 2016.
In the meantime, the local political parties will be offering caucus meetings to collect public opinion on a 2012 Presidential candidate.

The Auto CAD architectural drafting class at Colville High School recently started work on a 3-D model of Victory Park, a Habitat for Humanity (Habitat) housing project currently being built behind Wal-Mart in Colville.
Students in Todd Strobelâs Auto CAD class are building a diorama of the Victory Park project to help increase community interest and awareness. Once completed, the Victory Park project will provide housing for eight families.
Colville Branch AAUW (American Association of University Women) will sponsor a women's health forum, "Staying Balanced in Troubled Times," on Thursday, Feb. 16, from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at the Rendezvous Theater, InÂŹstitute for Extended Learning, 985 S. Elm Street, Colville.
According to Terri Elders, Colville Branch AAUW President, this year's health forum event will address how stress and uncertainty impact women's moods and behavior, as well as their general physical health.
Becky Jo Smith, a 20-year resident of Kettle Falls, went home to be with her Lord on Jan. 17, 2012. Becky was born to Doris and Kermit Peterson in Seattle on July 2, 1959. She was their third child and only daughter.
Becky attended Seattle Community College and then at 19, met the love of her life, Doug Smith. On Dec. 11, 1982, they were married.
In 1981, they moved from Tacoma to Republic, where they lived until moving to Curlew in 1984. In 1989, they moved to the Kettle Falls area, where she happily resided until the time of her passing.

The public is invited to attend the annual Stevens County Cattlemen's Association Social Night and Banquet on Saturday, Feb. 11 at the Stevens County Ag. Trade Center. The event starts at 5 p.m. with social hour and games. Dinner will be served at 6 p.m.
Tickets are $25 and are available at Colville Big R, Aslin-Finch Flour Mill, and with limited availability at the door. Evening activities include a live auction, raffle, games, recitations by a cowboy poet and recognition of the SCCA Cattlemen of the Year.

I am amazed by how frequently I hear these words from my friends, family members and acquaintances. I really, really like my job and I occasionally find myself sharing stories about peoÂŹple I help throughout the day or interesting speakers and events that the library hosts.
