Players sought for
second year league
Bambino Baseball Buddy Ball will embark on its second season in Colville next month.
The league for special needs youngsters got its impetus last spring with seven players. This spring, coordinators Heather and Brandon Judd hope to sign up 15 youngsters for this unique and rewarding program.
The Colville Kiwanis Club-sponsored Little League supports the program and has reserved field space for Bambino Buddy Ball, which is a division of Babe Ruth Baseball.
Chewelahâs baseball team finally got to spend some time on the diamond this past week, playing five games since last Monday. So it goes when the early spring has been uncommonly wet and inclement.
Jenkins High School head coach Luke Jeanneret isnât too worried about all the games in a short, quick stretch. Jeanneret figures his pitching is deep enough and able to take the wear and tear so many games can put on a staff.

Though the phrase is âIn like a lion, out like a lamb,â there was nothing docile about the month of Marchâs exit, as significant rainfall broke records in the Colville Valley.
As of Saturday, March 31, the area had received 4.25 inches of rain for the month of March, exceeding the old record of 3.55 inches in 1987.
âItâs a weather occurrence of note, but it is that time of year,â says Meteorologist John Livingston of the National Weather Service Office in Spokane. âWe had a dry winter for the 2011-2012 season and it looks like the wet weather is just starting to kick in.â

NEA League foes
Colville Highâs rapidly improving soccer team will face a pair of Northeast A League opponents this week in games that will go a long way toward determining the league champion and post-season pecking order.
Sure, itâs still early in the season, but in a minimalist league like the NEA, the Indians and head coach Dave Rarrick will get a pretty good idea by the weekend what the pecking order might be.
William Walter Artman passed away in Colville on March 29, 2012. Bill, born Sept. 4, 1943 in Colville, was the oldest son of Merlin Walter and Rose Marie (Laird) Artman.
Bill spent his growing-up years in Colville, graduating from Colville High School in 1961. Some time later, he graduated with a business degree from Eastern Washington University. Bill served in the Air National Guard for six months active and six years in the reserves, fulfilling his military commitment.

Marilyn A. Lakey, 80, was born on Oct. 7, 1931 in Fruitland and passed away on March 24, 2012 in Spokane.
Marilyn graduated from Hunters (Columbia) High School. She married Casey Lakey on Feb. 18, 1950 in Davenport. They lived and farmed in the Colville Valley for 18 years.
Emily Gladys Knapp passed away on the evening of Good Friday, April 6, 2012 in Olympia at age 96. She was a longtime (67 years) resident of Colville and loved her town (âDo you know what is the most wonderful town in the world?â).
