Big match with Lakeside
on Saturday at CHS
Colville Highâs defending Northeast A League and District 7 tennis champions, currently leading the NEA race this soggy spring, are back in action this week after being idle over Spring Break.
CHS hosted Deer Park on Tuesday and will entertain Lakeside Saturday in a match-up that will go a long way toward determining this seasonâs NEA champion. Lakeside and the Indians battled for the league and district championships last spring.
Saturdayâs match on the CHS courts is scheduled for an 11 a.m. start.

NW Extreme Makeover
Gerry Cox, owner of Mountain House Stables (Arden), has thrown his hat in the ring at NW Extreme Mustang Makeover again. His last attempt netted a third place showing in 2010.
The NW Extreme Mustang Makeover is sponsored by the Mustang Heritage Foundation of Georgetown, Texas, in conjunction with the Bureau of Land Management, where the MHF has selected 45 trainers from Washington, Oregon, Idaho, Montana, California and Nevada to pick up randomly selected wild horses from the BLM gathering centers in Oregon, California and Nevada.
Emma Schanz makes her mark at both meets
Colville swimmers Dylan and Emma Schanz continue to pursue USA swimming at a ratcheted up level for the Spokane Area Swim Team.
Dylan, 17, and Emma, 14, attended the Speedo Championship Series in Federal Way March 8-11 and most recently the YMCA National Championships at Greensboro, N.C. April 2-5.
April 4th
Mustangs get in
games at Kettle
Northport High moved its early-season baseball record to 4-0 last week with a 5-0, 13-4 sweep of host Republic.
The games were played at the junior varsity field at Kettle Falls. The fields at Northport and Republic were still unplayable last week.
The Mustangs won the rain-shortened first game 5-0 behind right-hander Jeremiah Johnson. The junior scattered two hits and struck out seven.
Johnson didnât throw a ball until there were two outs in the second inning.
April 3rd
Kettle Falls High dropped a Northeast 2B League doubleheader at Northwest Christian back on March 27 by scores of 5-0, 9-2.
The Bulldogs had trouble mounting any kind of an offensive attack against NWC. KFHS managed only five hits in the 14 innings of baseball played at Colbert.
April 2nd
Toni Gayle Vanderhoof left us to be with Jesus on March 19, 2012. She had put her life in Godâs hands and let Him carry her in her final days of her battle with COPD. Toni was surÂŹrounded by family and close friends as she left earth on her journey to heaven.
Toni was born on Dec. 19, 1950 in South Bend, Indiana to Stanley and Dorothy (Martin) Scearce. Her mother moved to Washington in 1969, bringing Toni with her. Toni moved to Utah in the 80âs.
Laura Jean Wappl, a resident of Colville, passed away on March 28, 2012 in Colville at the age of 67. Laura Jean was born on Nov. 20, 1944 in West Seattle, the daughter of Louis and Laura Louise (Knowles) Wappl.
Laura Jean (Puddin) began her education in Arbor Heights and later attended the âPacificâ school for her Junior and Senior High School education. While in school, she participated in the Special Olympics as a swimmer and bowler. Through Special Olympics, Laura Jean was given the opportunity to travel to many events, including a trip to Louisiana.

Area Democrats looking to take part in the Stevens County Democratic Party Caucuses will have an opportunity on April 15 at various locations across the county. The caucuses will give local Democrats the opportunity to participate in the delegate election process and work on the county platform.
The Democratic Party Caucuses are following the Stevens County Republican Party caucuses held in March.
