The Stevens County Friends of NRA will hold their annual banquet on Saturday, Sept. 8 at the Colville Community College Center. Tickets are on sale and are priced at $35.
Buy tickets before August 24 and be automatically entered for a chance to win a Ruger LCP .380 auto. Individuals purchasing sponsor packages are also entered into a sponsor-only raffle.
The entry opportunities for the two youth shooting conÂtests have been extended to inÂsure the maximum number of kids have an opportunity to participate. In addition to pre-entering with the fair office, participants can also register the day of the event at the range.
Both the rimfire rifle and the shotgun event will be held at the Fort Colville Gun Club (303 Highway 20 East) on Saturday, August 18. Sign up for the riÂfle contest will begin at 8 a.m., with shooting starting at 9 a.m. The shotgun contest will begin at 1 p.m.

Margaret Pauline Merle, 90, died August 4, 2012 at a local assisted living home in Meridian, Idaho. Arrangements by Boise Funeral Home, Aclesa Chapel.
Wayne Marvin Grandle, a longtime resident of Colville, passed away on Aug. 2, 2012 in Spokane at the age of 96. Wayne was born on September 14, 1915 in Monmouth, KS the son of George Lewis and Aura (Morgan) Grandle.
Fred Lee Lotze passed away at his home on August 12, 2012 after a battle with cancer. He and his twin brother Ted were born on April 8, 1934 to Harry O. and Jesse (Welch) Lotze in Colville. He was the grandson of Stevens County pioneers and Onion Creek homesteaders Ernst and Marie (Najork) Lotze. He attended school at Onion Creek through grade eight and graduated from Northport High School with the class of 1953. In 1951 Fredâs father was fatally injured in a logging accident and his mother passed away shortly afterwards from a stroke.
David âDaveâ Francis Stensgar, a lifetime resident of Inchelium, passed away on August 10, 2012 while visiting the Two Rivers Casino near Fort Spokane. Dave was born on November 29, 1931 in Inchelium, the son of Fredrick and Mary (Meusy) Stensgar.
Jenkinsâ High Schoolâs (Chewelah) Snyder Field will be the beneficiary of this old Eastern Washington University (Roos Field) scoreboard. The 23-year-old scoreboard was disassembled last week and will make way for a new scoreboard and video display that will be in place for Easternâs Sept. 29 home opener against Big Sky rival Montana. Former CHS standouts join Fighting Saints program
Kettle Falls High School graduate and former KFHS football and basketball standout Brian Strobel is one of six Carroll College football players to be named to the USA Football News NAIA Pre-season All-American Team.
Strobel has been a standout in the defensive secondary for the Saints since arriving at the Helena, MT school three years ago. Strobel earned All-Frontier Conference first team honors last season in the secondary. The 5-11, 212-pounder had 90 total tackles last season, caused as fumble and had three interceptions.
H&R Block and the city of Colville Recreation Department teamed last Saturday morning in the latest in a season-long series of runs in Colville.
According to Colville Recreation Coordinator, Jake Wilson, the final Fun Run in the series had the best turnout. Over 50 runners showed up last Saturday morning for the run.
âThe weather last Saturday morning was perfect for runningâŠthat left smiles on everyoneâs faces,â Wilson said.
Finishing first was Duncan Forsman of Republic in 19:04.
Indians move
to GNL
Pre-season practice sessions for the Colville High football team will get underway on Wednesday, August 15, according to head coach Randy Cornwell.
The Indians will run two-a-day practice sessions every other day, Cornwell said. Wednesdayâs opener will be a two-a-day session.
On the two-a-day practice schedule, sessions will run from 8:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. and from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.
On the one practice a day format, practice will be from 8:30 a.m. to 11 a.m.
The first three practice sessions are mandatory âhelmets only.â
