The public is invited to attend the annual Stevens County Cattlemen's Association Social Night and Banquet on Saturday, Feb. 11 at the Stevens County Ag. Trade Center. The event starts at 5 p.m. with social hour and games. Dinner will be served at 6 p.m.
Tickets are $25 and are available at Colville Big R, Aslin-Finch Flour Mill, and with limited availability at the door. Evening activities include a live auction, raffle, games, recitations by a cowboy poet and recognition of the SCCA Cattlemen of the Year.

“I didn’t know you could do that at the library…”
I am amazed by how frequently I hear these words from my friends, family members and acquaintances. I really, really like my job and I occasionally find myself sharing stories about peo¬ple I help throughout the day or interesting speakers and events that the library hosts. No matter how many stories I tell, there seem to be endless instances when my friends hear something new to them. A few examples:

February 1st
Tyler Vining top seed to sub-regional
Kettle Falls High wrestled at Republic High School in the Bulldogs’ final all-school match-up of the season last Saturday. The meet also served as seeding to the 2B sub-regional meet on Saturday at Lake Roosevelt High School.
Regional competition will be held at Kittitas High School Feb. 10-11.
The girl’s sub-regional, where Kettle’s Lindsey Olvera will be slotted at 106 pounds, will be held at East Valley High School in Spokane on Saturday. The girl’s sub-regional includes Class B through 4A.

Northport among
boy’s favorites
That annual rite of early February, the Panorama League boy’s and girls basketball tournaments, will make their runs this week.
The tournament will culminate on Saturday at Kettle Falls with district seeding and championship games.
In Panorama Tournament opening round games on Tuesday (boys), Northport (16-3, 11-2) hosted Cusick (8-10, 7-5) and Selkirk (8-11, 8-5) was at regular season champion Wellpinit (14-5, 12-0). Both games were scheduled for 6 p.m. starts.
Indians will host Riverside in loser-out
After getting a busy week started on the right sneaker with a big road win at Lakeside, the Colville High boy’s basketball team saw opportunity slip through their grasp last weekend at home.
The Indians (11-9, 6-4) were outplayed by NEA champion Freeman (13-7, 8-2) and by second place Chewelah (15-5, 7-3) on Saturday.

By virtue of their second place Northeast A League finish, the Colville High girls avoid the District 7 1A Tournament loser-out pressure cooker on Saturday and can prepare for the opening round of the double elimination portion of the tournament that gets started Wednesday, Feb. 8 at Mead High School.
Indians down Lakeside,
Riverside back-to-back
Colville High shared the Northeast A League dual meet championship last winter with Lakeside and Riverside. This time around, there is no sharing—the Indians have annexed the NEA championship over Lakeside and Riverside outright.
The Colville Road Warriors, who have seldom been home this winter on what seems like an extended road trip, annexed a league championship last week with a 48-31 win at Lakeside. The Indians, who went through the NEA unscathed this winter, followed that up one night later with a 39-29 dual match win at Riverside.
William Leonard Hill, “Dr. Bill” to his friends, passed away at his Deep Lake home on Jan. 24, 2012. Bill was born on Jan, 3, 1948 in Gridley, California, the son of Billy and Louise (Kirkham) Hill.
At the age two, his family purchased and moved to a new ranch just north of Deep Lake.
Bill attended grade school at Leadpoint and graduated from Northport High School in 1966. Soon after high school graduation, he spent several years living and working in Wenatchee.
January 31st
James Robert Strick, best known as Bob Strick of Kettle Falls, died peacefully Jan. 19, 2012 in Spokane of complications from previously undiagnosed Pancreatic Cancer and Cirrhosis. He was 72 years-old. He was born in 1939 in Missoula, MT to Marie and James Strick, and raised in Spokane.
