Cougars lose Homecoming

Chewelah heads
to Riverside

The Chewelah Cougars (1-7, 1-4) went into last Friday’s Northeast A League football game with Newport expecting a more competitive game. While the Cougars trailed 7-6 after three quarters, two fourth quarter touchdowns sent Chewelah to a 21-6 defeat.
The Cougars started a new backfield in this game. Chewelah was without injured quarterback Blake Owens and running back Scott Stumpf.
Quarterback McKenzie Miller and running backs Stephen Beamer and Tory McKern picked up the slack, but the Cougars couldn’t find the end zone.

Colville drops marathon GNL match-up with Pullman

Colville High (8-5, 7-4) lost an epic five-game battle with co-league-leader Pullman (8-7, 8-3) in a key Great Northern League volleyball match-up back on Oct. 22 in Colville.
The Indians took control of the match, winning the first two games, 26-24 and 25-22. Colville fell behind 7-0 and 10-1 in the opening game before catching fire.
But Pullman won the final three sets and the match, 25-21, 25-16, 19-17.

Freeman rolls over Kettle Falls

Unbeaten Freeman got a game from Kettle Falls High in the first half, but the Scotties (8-0, 5-0), one of the top Class 1A teams in the state, used a pair of “Pick 6” interception returns in the third quarter to open up a big lead and cruise to a 46-7 win at Kettle Falls in Northeast A League football action last Friday night.
