Elks Lodge back in business

The Colville Elks Lodge no. 1753 is back in business, or will be on Wednesday, Nov. 13 when the lodge officially re-opens.
BPOE No. 1753, a fixture in the Colville valley for more than 80 years, has retained its charter with a new slated of officers, led by newly anointed Exalted Ruler, Ryke Dahlen.
The national Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks suspended the charter of the Colville lodge in late September. The edict was signed by Elks Grand Exalted Ruler Millard Pickering and was approved at the local level by Grand Trustees and local lodge state sponsor, Roger True.

Bill Benson

Fred William “Bill” Benson of Kettle Falls passed away in his sleep on Oct. 28 in Spokane. Bill was born in Sheridan, Wyoming on Jan. 18, 1926. He graduated from Ogden High School, went into the Air Force for two years, and then graduated from Weber College with a two-year degree in Arts and Science. After proposing on their second date on August 16, 1950, Bill married Shirley Lee Taylor in Ogden, Utah—just 11 days after they met each other.

Renata Kubiak

 Renata Kubiak passed away peacefully Nov. 5, 2013 at her sister's home in Cheektowaga, NY, at the age of 62 after a battle with Lung Cancer.  She graduated from Mount Mercy Academy (Class of 1969) in Buffalo, NY.  

Jeffrey Sphuler

Jeffrey Robert Sphuler, 54, died at his home where he resided with his daughter, Lizabeth Sphuler, and grand-daughter, Jasmine Sphuler, in Walla Walla Saturday, Nov. 2, 2013.
Jeff was born May 6, 1959 at Mt. Carmel Hospital in Colville. He went to grade school in Marcus and graduated from Kettle Falls High School. As a young boy, he enjoyed photography. In 1977, he was wed to Joyce Matlock and together they had four children.

Jim Christian

November 14, 2013

James “Jim” D. Christian, a resident of Colville, passed away on Nov. 5, 2013 in Medical Lake at the age of 44. Jim was born on Feb. 15, 1969 in Seattle, the son of Glenn Michael and Diane Marie (Terry) Christian.
Jim spent his early years in Renton, where he at¬tended school through the eighth grade. When Jim was 13, his family moved to Colville, where he finished his education and gradu¬ated from Colville High School in 1987.

Adis Steele

Adis Ronald Steele, age 53, passed away peacefully at his home on Nov. 9, 2013, with his sisters Lynnette and Deanna at his side, following a courageous battle with cancer. His kind and gentle spirit entered this world on June 20, 1960 in Tonasket. He was born the second son to Robert R. and Alice F. Steele. He was a fun-loving little boy who loved the outdoors. He liked to fish, ride bicycles, and he spent many of his child¬hood years with his sister Lynnette as his protector, and his tag-along sister, Deanna, as his companion.
