Ralph Carney

Ralph Thomas Carney, a longtime resident of the Colville area, passed away on October 9, 2013 at the age of 84. Ralph was born on August 21, 1929 in Cleveland, Ohio, the son of William and Gladys (Groenstein) Carney.
Ralph was raised and attended school in the Cleveland area. In 1946 he joined the United States Air Force. He com¬pleted his service in 1949 and was honorably discharged. After returning home, he started his five-year plumbing apprentice¬ship.

Mary Shisler

Mary J. Shisler, 59 of Spokane, went to be with her Lord on Thursday, Oct. 24, 2013. She was born Oct.31, 1953 in Chippewa Falls, Wisconsin to Herb and Nelda Shisler. She is preceded in death by her parents.
Mary is survived by siblings, Clifford, Nancy, Don, Joanne, Norma, Jim, Bill, Larry, Kathy, and sixteen nieces and nephews, extended family and friends.

Michael Chartier

Michael Robert Chartier passed away at home surrounded by his loving family on Oct. 31, 2013. He was born on Feb. 1, 1999 in Oregon City, Oregon, the son of Oda Roy and Doreen Louise (Elliott) Chartier.
Michael grew up in Addy and attended school in Colville, where he had many friends. He had a true uplifting spirit and an unforgettable smile that would leave a lasting impression with anyone he met.

Kenneth Blanchard

Kenneth Gene Blanchard passed away on Oct. 30, 2013 in Colville. He was born on June 13, 1945 in Tifton, GA, the son of Buck and Addy (Bailey) Blanchard. Kenneth grew up in Tifton and moved to Albany, GA, where he met Barbara Partain. The two were married in April 8, 1963. The family then relocated to Florida when their children were young.
Kenneth and his wife Barbara moved to Colville 15 years ago and made their home here.

Bud Martin

John “Bud” Junior Martin, age 87, passed away on Oct. 27, 2013 in Colville. John was born on March 15, 1926 in Gifford, the son of John and Marie (Gregerson) Martin.
John was raised and attended school in Gifford and Hunters. He graduated in 1946. He married Bertie Tayloe on May 27, 1951 and together they moved to Everett, where he was employed at Boeing. Later, they returned to Colville and John began working at the Dallas Garage as a mechanic. With his experience in mechanics, he transferred to Colville Valley Concrete and later to Chopot’s Lumber Company.

Laurie Craft, 54, not only pulls it off, but excels at it through her multihued collages, which convey her affection for her family and friends. Perhaps it’s because she isn’t trying to send a message and doesn’t consider herself to be an artist that her pieces have such a joyous effect on the viewer.

Lee, Carpenter blow through 2A District cross-country

in Pasco

With rain and 50 mile per hour wind punishing the open expanse of Spokane Valley’s Plantes Ferry Park last Saturday, Colville cross country standouts Megan Lee and Kevin Carpenter took the opportunity to punch their tickets to the Washington’s State Championship. While it was expected that Carpenter, a senior, would make his fourth and final trip to Pasco’s Sun Willows Golf Club, it was Lee who shocked the field, running a personal course record on her way to an eye-opening third place finish.

Colville heads to Pullman with playoff berth on the line

Indians eliminate Cheney

Colville High (6-3, 3-2) will play for a State 2A football playoff berth Friday night in the Palouse against Pullman (6-2, 4-1). Game time at PHS is 7 p.m.
The winner will qualify for the playoffs one week later as the second and last seed from the Great Northern League. The loser will see its season come to an end.
Colville stayed in the playoff hunt with an impressive 19-13 win at home over Cheney (6-3, 2-3) last Friday night. The loss eliminated the Blackhawks from post-season contention.
