Kettle Falls High (6-10, 2-7) picked up a pair of Northeast A League wins last week and finished 2-1 during a busy stretch of action.
The Lady Bulldogs eased past host Chewelah 49-39 back on Jan. 15 and downed host Medical Lake 38-35 on Friday night before absorbing a 50-36 loss back at Kettle Falls Middle School on Saturday afternoon to Newport (11-6, 6-3).
THIS WEEK
Kettle Falls has the unenviable task of hosting perennial NEA champion and State 1A title contender Freeman (16-0, 8-0) on Tuesday. Game time is 5:45 p.m.
Indians split with DP, Pullman
An issue that has plagued the Colville High girlâs basketball team all season long came into play last Saturday evening against visiting Pullman. The Indians (7-7, 3-3) turned in subpar second and third quarters offensively and that was just enough of a cushion for the Greyhounds (10-5, 6-1), who had to withstand a fourth quarter CHS rally to post a 48-43 win.
Back on Jan. 15, Colville blasted host Deer Park (0-15, 0-7) 62-16.

Chewelah continues its unblemished run through the Northeast A League boyâs basketball league this winter. The Cougars swept three games last week, picking up wins against Kettle Falls, Riverside and Lakeside.
Chewelah downed visiting Kettle Falls last Tuesday, 65-23 and blasted Riverside 60-29. The Cougars held off Lakeside, 66-61.

The air is crisp and cold, but Kimo Morrison is never the less at his barbecue outside his house, proficiently laying marinated steaks on the grill. Dressed in a t-shirt and shorts, he seems impervious to the chilly temperature.
âGo on inside,â he says in welcome. âNicoleâs got the table set and weâre just waiting on the steaks.â

In 2013 why not consider becoming a Hospice of Spokane (HOS) volunteer? There is always a need for dedicated, compassionate men and women to assist the Hospice team in the care plan for a patient and their family, particularly in the Tri-County area, says Volunteer Coordinator Sharon Angle.
âIt would be really nice to have more volunteers for this in our area, particularly men,â states Angle. âWe hope people will take advantage of this training; all it requires is your time.â

The City of Colville is requesting comment or ideas regarding possible uses for, or possible sale or lease of publicly owned (City) land commonly known as âColville Mountainâ. The City owns approximately 250 acres around the landmark known as âthe Crossâ and is exploring ways of providing or increasing public benefit from the property, if any.
Indians look sharp in beating Cheney
Colville High (6-6, 2-2) took out a few frustrations on Cheney (3-8, 1-4) last Saturday night at home in a 53-35 Great Northern League girlâs basketball win. The win over the Blackhawks was one of the Indiansâ best all-around outings of the season and helped take away some of the sting of a pair of GNL losses to West Valley and East Valley during the week.

The Jenkins High boysâ basketball team finished the first half of Northeast A League play undefeated and in first place after winning a pair of games last week.
Back on Jan. 8 at Medical Lake, in a showdown for first place in the NEA, Chewelah used a big second half to beat the Cardinals 47-37, then overwhelmed visiting Newport with a stifling defensive effort in a 63-20 win on Friday.
Once again, the Cougars found different ways to get the job done and won with different players making key contributions.
Deer Park escapes
with big dual win
To pull off an upset of second-ranked and five-time defending State 2A wrestling champion Deer Park last Thursday night, fourth-ranked Colville needed to stay off their backs and get a break or two. That didnât happen.
Colville, who buried Pullman in a dual match-up in the Palouse one night earlier, lost its first six matches, three of them by pin, and trailed 27-0 before Indiansâ 152-pounder Ryley Smith decisioned Deer Parkâs Jason Aebischer, 7-5.
