Loretta Mae (Malicoat) McManus passed away April 26, 2013 at Mt. Carmel Hospital in Colville at the age of 81. She was born December 14, 1931 in Emmett, Idaho to her loving parents, Oscar and Nancy R. (Malicoat) Voyce.

Frank Jedel

In memory of our brother Frank Jedel, who passed away Dec. 2, 2012, in Spokane at age 68, after a courageous four-year battle with cancer. His family was all present the day he passed away. No funeral service was held.
On Election Day, Nov. 7, 1944, Franklin Delano Renold Jedel was born in Colville, the son of Reinhard Paul and Mattie Pearl Jedel, the day President Roosevelt was elected to a fourth term.

Carol McKinney

Carol Gene McKinney (Porter) went to Heaven on May 22, 2013. She was born on August 3, 1944 in St. Maries, Idaho to George and Violet Porter. She graduated from Deary High School in 1962. She married the love of her life, Roy B. McKinney Jr., in Coeur d’ Alene, Idaho on Jan. 9, 1963. They lived in and around the Spokane area while finally settling with their four children in Kettle Falls in 1970.

Responding to a need: Senior housing project breaks ground

It’s been just over a decade since the original “seed” of an idea, but the dream of affordable housing for Colville’s seniors is a large step closer to reality. Eric Ohrtman and Jeff Whitten of the Hudesman House Apartments (HHA) Board of Directors announced at Tuesday’s Chamber of Commerce meeting that the project on Colville’s north side recently broke ground.

Northport senior wins three more

Northport High’s one-woman track and field team, Kassie Guglielmino, capped a brilliant high school career with a trio of titles at last weekend’s State 1A/2B/1B track and field championships at Eastern Washington University’s Roos Field.
Guglielmino’s accomplishments are mind-boggling. The diminutive senior, headed to Montana Western University where she will major in Equine Studies, has captured 12 state championships in those three years. That’s three a year for the math challenged.

Colville High senior Joellee Buckner, in her first season throwing the javelin, proved to be a quick learner last week at the State 2A Track and Field Championships at Mt. Tahoma High School (Tacoma).
Buckner, headed to Western Washington University to play volleyball, won the State 2A javelin by exceeding her previous best by six-feet, seven-inches and uncorking a throw of 137-11 during the second day of Star Track’s XXXI in Tacoma.

memorable campaign

Colville High (24-3) has finished another memorable fastpitch softball campaign, winning a school record 23 straight games before losing their opener in the rain-drenched State 2A softball tournament last Friday and Saturday at Carlon Park in Selah and ultimately finishing 2-2.
The Great Northern League and District 7 champion Indians didn’t open the tournament until 6 p.m. last Friday night because of heavy rain in the Yakima valley that drenched softball and baseball fields and sent tournament officials scrambling for Diamond Dry and pumps.
