Jacob Stachofsky

August 28, 2013

Jacob Andrew Stachofsky age 37, passed away in the arms of his friend David, and was called home to be with his Savior Je¬sus Christ in Chewelah on August 6, 2013. Jacob died as the result of injuries obtained in an automobile accident.

Harold Weatherman

August 28, 2013

Harold Leland Weatherman, a longtime resident of the Colville area, passed away on July 27, 2013 in Colville. He was born on Jan. 16, 1929 at Inchelium, the son of Ralph and Mary (Kohler) Weatherman.
Harold married Ann Benson in 1948. He began working for the Draper Lumber Mill as a mechanic. From there, he transferred to Bronson’s Implement and finished his working career at the State Highway Department.

Peggy Jean (McIrvin) Daniels

August 28, 2013

On August 22, after living a full life with family and friends in Stevens and Ferry County, Peggy Jean (McIrvin) Daniels entered into eternal rest with her Savior Jesus Christ.

Fran was born to Charles and Golda Mae (Town) Flugel in Colville Washington and has resided in Puyallup since October 2001. Until two weeks ago, Fran lived independently, driving, cooking and traveling with friends. Fran graduated from Colville High and married Leonard A. Kaufman on July 1, 1939, in Colville.

David Wingate

David Wingate passed away on August 16, 2013. He was born in Tacoma on July 14, 1947. He spent most of his youth in Boston and returned to the Seattle area after his service in the Army as a first lieutenant from 1965-1967. He attended University of Washington while he worked for Safeco Insurance and Seafirst Bank learning all things financial

Mavericks, Brown Boys, Lori Roberts compete in Chili Cook-Off

The first annual Colville Rotary First International Chili Cook-Off is right around the corner, Saturday, Sept. 21 at the NE WA Fairgrounds from noon to 6 p.m.
Several popular and familiar local names and chefs will concoct their favorite chili recipes for the contest.
Attendees at the contest might recognize James Norris, chef at Maverick’s Restaurant in Colville, because of his volunteer work during the restaurant’s free Thanksgiving dinner for the community.

Cross country
season underway

Let the wind blow and the thunder roll. Sunday evening’s squall through the Colville Valley managed to knock out power and do a fair amount of property damage, but wasn’t able to dampen the Colville High School cross country team’s appointed 2013 season kick-off.
While much of the Valley languished in the dark after a strong thunderstorm knocked out large portions of the local power grid, a swift response by local AVISTA crews had the metered gold restored to CHS well before the Indians’ annual midnight appointment with their new season.

CHS football gets a jump

Area high school football teams started practice sessions one week earlier than their volleyball, cross country and soccer brethren. Practice sessions for area high school football teams started August 19. Colville High head coach Randy Cornwell’s Indians have been working the “daily double” routine every other day. Colville (3-7, 1-5 in 2012) will open the 2013 season on Friday, Sept. 6 at home against Freeman of the Northeast A League. In accompanying photos, Cornwell works with some of his linemen during a recent practice session.

Colville artist selected for high honor

August 19, 2013

The C.M. Russell Museum in Great Falls, MT. has announced the artists selected as the first members of the Russell Skull Society of Artists, a new, elite group of contemporary Western artists. Colville resident and metal artist Jerry McKellar is one of those artists.
The C.M. Russell museum houses the most complete collection of celebrated artist Charles M. Russell works and personal objects in the world.
Each year, society members will be granted membership based on the degree to which they satisfy the membership criteria.
