A surprise from the past

Sometimes, the past comes back to us in unexpected ways. A little over two months ago, Kettle Falls resident Milles Nelson was refinishing a credenza for his daughter, Debbie, when he discovered a piece of mail hidden away in one of its drawers. However, this was no ordinary piece of mail. It was a piece of V-Mail from one-time Colville resident, Edgar Jarrett, former owner of the town's Napa Auto Parts store, to his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Earl Jarrett of Colville.The correspondence is dated Sept. 26, 1944 and sent from France.

Renovating a life:Evan Windom knows it’s possible

It’s never too late to transform a life. That was the message Evan Windom brought to the crowd at a Colville Get Fit rally recently.
The 49-year-old fitness and health advocate shared the stories of his personal triumphs and tribulations as he went from 280-pounds, de¬pressed and unmotivated to taking control of his destiny.

Mike Hammond

Michael (Mike) Ray Hammond, 66, passed away peacefully on Monday, July 1, 2013 surrounded by loved ones at Providence Mount Carmel Hospital, Colville. Mike was born Jan 12, 1947 to Tommy and Ruth (Cline) Hammond. He graduated from Kettle Falls High School in 1964.

Larch Harris

Larch Floyd Harris, 45, died, June 23, 2013 in Colville. He was born on March 7, 1969 to Karen Joanne Harris and Floyd Richard Harris. He graduated from Colville High School, where he participated in football, wrestling and track and field.
After high school, Larch attended Wyoming Auto Mechanic Trade School. His work career took him many paths, including mechanic, paving, construction and truck driving. His family labeled him a “jack of all trades”.

Kim Alldredge

Kim Stefan Alldredge passed away on July 3, 2013 in North¬port. He was born the son of Ezra Weldon and Carol Noel (Bennett) Alldredge on Sept. 8, 1951 in Spokane.
Kim moved from Algona to Colville in the spring of 1974 with his wife Pamella Sweet and their two daughters, Donquel and Carrie. A couple years later, the family was blessed with an¬other daughter, Amber.

John Bell

A remembrance-wake will be held Saturday, July 13, 12 p.m., at the Northport Grange. The family of John Bell invites everyone to join them in a celebration of his fun and happy life. A pig roast and potluck reception will follow the ceremony.

When everything turns out all right

Occasionally, in a medium that thrives off less than exultant news and tends to revel in the negative, a story comes along that reaffirms that on some occasions, everything can turn out all right in the end.
Carefree Hair Salon and its owner, Jill Woodward, is one of those stories.
It didn’t look that way several months ago when a representative from Big R informed Woodward that the corporation was ending Carefree’s lease, and the long-time salon would have to relocate. The store has plans to expand and said that it needed the space Carefree is occupying.

Ronald George “Jack” Sly, a lifelong resident of Kettle Falls, passed away on June 24, 2013 in Kettle Falls. Jack was born on Jan. 28, 1937 in Republic, the son of Gordon Lester and Wanda Fern (Reed) Sly.

'He remembered where he was from": Man gives over $500,000 to community

Who is Robert Vinson? Some people knew the former Colville resident, and the legacy of community involvement left by his parents, Otto Floyd and Myrtie Vinson.
Whether you knew him or not, the Vinson name will always be synonymous with generosity in Colville. After his death in West Los Angeles on Nov. 18, 2012, at the age of 90, Robert Vinson left $650,000 to be distributed among various community organizations, clubs and the City of Colville.
