Wayne Keeney

June 27, 2013

Wayne M. Keeney of Colville passed away on June 18, 2013 at the age of 85. His wife of 59 years, Elna G. Keeney (Andy), preceded him in death in 2007. One surviving sibling is Betty Lou Irwin of Carriere, MS. Surviving sons are Wayne D. Keeney of Colville and Dave Keeney of Gulfport, MS. Grandchildren include Tim Tommerup of Lincoln, NE; Douglas Keeney of Colville; Adrianne Keeney of Denver, CO. and Aaron Keeney of Gulfport, MS. Great-grandchildren are Ty, Devin and Emmie Tommerup of Lincoln, NE.

Wade Holland

June 27, 2013

Wade Jeffrey Holland, a lifetime resident of the Kettle Falls and Colville communities, passed away on June 16, 2013 at the age of 35. Wade was born on August 6, 1977 in Yakima, the son of Marvin James and Linda Sue (Lickfold) Holland.

Ronald Holland

June 27, 2013

Ronald Lee Holland passed away in Colville on June 16, 2013. He was born the son of James Allen and Laura Mary (Cooper) Holland on June 29, 1961 in Colville. Ron atÂŹtended and graduated from Kettle Falls High School, Class of 1979. Following high school, Ron was employed by Northwest Wood Products in Kettle Falls. In 2002, Ron changed careers and went to work for United Parcel Service.

Larch Harris Memorial June 30th

Friends of Larch Harris are getting together for a memorial and potluck on Sunday, June 30 at the Kagel Shelter in Colville Park at 1 p.m. Anyone who knew him is invited to attend the memorial and bring a food dish to share.

A few changes in our criminal laws

Last week, Lech Radzimski, Ken Tyndal and I attended the Washington State Prosecutors Association meetings and trainÂŹing in Chelan. I attended the membership meeting, which all prosecuting attorneys in the state attend, and then joined the deputies for training sessions on various topics. We were briefed on some of the legislation that comes into effect on July 28, 2013.
Here is a brief sample of some of the changes in our criminal laws:
1009-Chapter 89 -- Allows retailer to sell liquor through self-checkout lanes, as long as an employee verifies age during the checkout.

Bike clinics offer fun alternative

The Colville Rotary Club, in partnership with the Colville Parks and Recreation Department, Clark's All-Sports, and Outback Bicycles of Kettle Falls, is hosting monthly bike clinics throughout the summer. The clinics are held in the parking lot next to the Colville Swimming Pool from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m.

Donald Boeff

June 26, 2013

Donald Lewis Boeff, a longtime resident of Colville, went peacefully to heaven on June 15, 2013. He was 87-years-old. Don was born near Dexter, MN on August 13, 1925, to WilÂŹhelm and Paulina (Zeh) Boeff. He graduated from high school at the age of 16 and went on to graduate with a B.S. degree in pre-med from Franklin & Marshall College in Pennsylvania. Don also served in the U.S. Navy and was a WWII Veteran.

Christmas may be the farthest holiday from people’s minds now that summer is here. However, in the final days before the school year ended, Stephanie Wilson’s first grade class at Hofstetter Elementary could think of little else. Children were preoccupied with making decorations for the 2013 U.S. Capitol Christmas tree. They join other students and organizations from all over the state that are contributing decorations and tree skirts to the evergreen tree that will be selected from the Colville National Forest (CNF).
