OLYMPIAâ€”The battle over how wolves that kill livestock should be handled continues in Washington state.
Eight conservation groups have re-filed a petition this summer, requesting the Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife enact rules that limit the use of lethal control of wolves that depredate livestock.
The filing of the petition with the Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife and its commission began a 60-day statutory period within which the state must respond. If the petition is denied, groups intend to appeal for a final decision by Gov. Jay Inslee.
COLVILLEâ€”The Colville National Forest, in partnership with Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife, has outlined hunting season routes designated as Disabled Hunter Access.
The 2014 disabled hunter access routes are Betty Creek in Ferry County (12.4 miles in length), Boundary Mountain in Ferry County (7.8 miles), Brewer Mountain in Stevens County (2.4 miles), Mitchell, Stevens County (7.8 miles), and Renshaw in Pend Oreille County (2.8 miles).
â€śJimâ€ť James V. Culton was born April 9, 1961 in Colfax and died July 16, 2014 in Spokane.
He is survived by his wife of 18 years, Dayona (DD) Culton; their children, Skyler and Tayler; father, Verlen Culton; sister, Sue Kahle; her husband, Ron and nephew and niece, Nick and Pearl.
Rolland V Gray, 87, passed away with his family by his side. He was the second of five children born to John and Louise Gray living in Chula Vista, CA. The family moved to Chewelah, where he worked summer during high school working at several fire lookouts in northeast Washington.
Anna Lee Sandvig, age 43, passed away in Spokane on July 29, 2014. She was born to her biological parents, Annette Simpson and Franco Swan, on Sept. 14, 1970 in Colville. She was raised by her parents, Clarence (Turk) Holford, and Regina Rae (Chee Chee Simpson) Seastrom.
Supply is down
Soaring meat prices are hitting producers, suppliers and consumers across the country. The price of beef and veal shot up more than 10 percent from June 2013 to June 2014, according to the most recent Consumer Price Index. Pork prices rose by 12 percent.
The largest price increases in three years are driven by one principle component: supply.
Drought has thinned herds of cattle in California and Texas. Disease has struck pork.

Charles â€śRayâ€ť Kurtak passed away peacefully at his home in Rovana on June 24, 2014. A week earlier, he had celebrated his 94th birthday, an occasion shared with family and many long-time friends.
Roy Joseph Codere, a ten-year resident of Colville, passed away on July 23, 2014 in Spokane at the age of 82. He was born on Sep.8, 1931 in Lake Linden, MI to Stanley and ElizaÂ¬beth (Racine) Codere.
Roy started his education in Lake Linden and graduÂ¬ated high school there in 1949. After graduating, he went into the United States Air Force in 1952 and in 1956 was honÂ¬orably discharged.
Ivy Mae (Lettenmaier) King passed away on July 12, 2014 at the age 80 at her sister's home in Springfield, OR. Ivy Mae was born July 21, 1933 to her parents, Andrew and Lillian Lettenmaier, in Sanborn, ND. She was the third of four children.
The family moved to Oregon in 1942, only to return to Valley City, ND in 1946. In January 1950 the family loaded up all the belongings they could fin in the car and moved west again to Junction City, OR.
