Phyllis Hyatt

Phyllis Carol (Kisamore) Hyatt, a 54-year resident of Stevens County, passed away in Colville, WA on Aug. 5, 2014, at the age of 79. She was born March 29, 1935 in Kinsman, OH, the third of four children born to Byron and Pansy (Farance) Kisamore.

Patricia Chambers

Patricia Ann Chambers, age 79, passed away in Spokane on August 6, 2014. She was born on January 26, 1935, the daughter of Eldon and Dorothy (Baker) Strawn in Denver, CO. At the age of nine, the family relocated from Denver to Yakima. Patricia attended and graduated from the Auburn Academy in Auburn.
In 1948, Patricia met LeRoy Dale Chambers in Yakima, and the couple married Jan. 30, 1954. Together they raised three children, Gregory, Karen, and Valerie. The family lived in Yakima until 1977, and then relocated to the Kettle Falls area where they have resided since.

Mae Redelings

Mae O. Redelings, age 95, passed away on July 18, 2014 in Tacoma. She was born the daughter of Rupert Peter and Genevieve Ann (Blackburn) Olsen in Brigham City, UT. Mae was one of eight children in her family.

Jordan Wagner

Jordan Lee Wagner came into this world on June 3, 2014, welcomed by his proud parents, Justin Lee Wagner, Starla Bowman and big brother, Brady. You left us peacefully in your sleep and gently went home into the arms of the Lord on July 13, 2014.
In your short life, you touched the hearts of all those that knew how precious you were. You stayed just long enough to meet everyone who loved you from coast to coast. Baby Jor¬dan, you have brought so much happiness to our family; words can¬not express how much you’ll always be loved and missed!

Dennis Sweeney

August 15, 2014

Dennis William Sweeney, born to Donald and Leathley "Lee" (White) Sweeney in Seattle on Sept. 22, 1941, the second of two children, passed away in Vancouver July 27, 2014, after a valiant struggle with Multiple Sclerosis.
Dennis graduated from West Seattle High School in 1959. He joined the U.S. Army and served in Germany as a Communi¬cations Spe¬cialist and Morse Code operator. He left the army in 1962 to enter the University of Washington, where he was awarded a BS in Architecture in 1967. He then went to the University of London and earned a Masters in Architecture in 1971.

Orphaned moose in rehab

A young Stevens County moose, orphaned at just a few days of age when its mother was killed when she was hit by a vehicle, has been put in the caring hands of Licensed Fish & Wildlife Rehabilitator Karen Odle, near Chewelah.
Monty the orphaned moose received a minor neck injury in the accident that killed his mother and was brought to Odle and her Many Gates to the Heart Rescue/Rehab Ranch.

Groups file petition to prevent wolf killing

OLYMPIA—The battle over how wolves that kill livestock should be handled continues in Washington state.
Eight conservation groups have re-filed a petition this summer, requesting the Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife enact rules that limit the use of lethal control of wolves that depredate livestock.
The filing of the petition with the Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife and its commission began a 60-day statutory period within which the state must respond. If the petition is denied, groups intend to appeal for a final decision by Gov. Jay Inslee.
