Paul Yeomans

August 29, 2014

Paul Wesley Yeomans, a longtime resident of Kettle Falls, passed away peacefully at his home on August 6, 2014 at the age of 77. He was born on May 14, 1937 to Adalbert and Elizabeth (McDonald) Yeomans in Grand Rapids Michigan.
Paul started his education in Grand Rapids. When Paul was ten-years-old, he started working with his siblings to help sup¬port his family. He had nine brothers and sisters. Paul was al¬ways a hard worker and never complained. At the age of 19, Paul married his first wife.

Phyllis Cunningham

Phyllis M. Cunningham, a longtime resident of Marcus and Colville, passed away peacefully during sleep on August 17, 2014 at her Gold Creek Loop home with family, after a battle of almost two years with cancer. She was under the gentle and excellent care of Hospice of Spokane at her home during this time.

Ronald Chute

Ronald “Ron” F. Chute passed away from a heart attack on August 15, 2014, one month shy of his 68th birthday. Ron was born on Sept. 19, 1946 in Omaha, Nebraska, the son of Wayne and Irene (Frank) Chute.
Ron was a talented and creative soul who was able to quickly master just about any craft that interested him. He had a passion for the cowboy life, and enjoyed riding and packing trips with friends. Ron also had a passion for leatherwork, and was one of the most talented wood and leather workers in the Northwest.

Attempted Kidnapping Claim Unfounded

A poster that circulated through social media this week claiming that a woman was trying to lure children with cotton candy in order to kidnap them in Deer Park and Colville turns out to be carrying false information, according to the Spokane COunty Sheriff's Office and the Colville Police Department.

The Healing Arts Center says goodbye

There will be a hole in the lo¬cal medical community after the Healing Arts Center Medical Clinic shutters its doors this Friday, ending over a decade of family practice under the guid¬ance of Dr. Lon Hatfield and his daughter and colleague, Dr. Jenna Collins.
“I have been very blessed to work here, live here, and raise my family here,” says Dr. Hat¬field, who retired recently at the age of 72. “It’s been wonderful, and we have been blessed.”

Festival of Neighbors coming up Sept. 13

There’s a new celebration coming to Kettle Falls on Saturday, Sept. 13. This is a fall event to be held at Happy Dell Park. It has been named “Festival of Neighbors” in hopes of bringing together not only our local citizens, but also our neighboring communities as well. A new group of volunteers with great new ideas and plenty of enthusiasm are organizing it. Kettle Falls Mayor Dorothy Slagle stated, “We’re working with our Chamber of Commerce to create an event that celebrates our area and brings more awareness to our history and all we have to offer here.”

Sonia Sue Thornburg, a longtime resident of Kettle Falls, passed away on August 5, 2014 at the age of 62. She was born on August 4, 1952 in Colville to Melvin and Clara (Cooper) Thornburg.

Phyllis Hyatt

August 15, 2014

Phyllis Carol (Kisamore) Hyatt, a 54-year resident of Stevens County, passed away in Colville, WA on Aug. 5, 2014, at the age of 79. She was born March 29, 1935 in Kinsman, OH, the third of four children born to Byron and Pansy (Farance) Kisamore.

Patricia Chambers

August 15, 2014

Patricia Ann Chambers, age 79, passed away in Spokane on August 6, 2014. She was born on January 26, 1935, the daughter of Eldon and Dorothy (Baker) Strawn in Denver, CO. At the age of nine, the family relocated from Denver to Yakima. Patricia attended and graduated from the Auburn Academy in Auburn.
In 1948, Patricia met LeRoy Dale Chambers in Yakima, and the couple married Jan. 30, 1954. Together they raised three children, Gregory, Karen, and Valerie. The family lived in Yakima until 1977, and then relocated to the Kettle Falls area where they have resided since.
