The Jenkins High girlsâ basketball team has apparently shaken off a slow December start and has crated some momentum heading into the holidays and 2015.
Chewelah picked up a pair of Northeast A League wins last week over Medical Lake and Colville.
Head coach Tom Skok was happy with the two-win week; he traces the change in the Cougarsâ play to a play late in the first quarter against Medical Lake last week.
A new press helped Colville run past host Chewelah last Friday night in the annual 395 Showdown with the Cougars. The Indians led 30-20 at halftime and used a 17-6 third quarter run to blow the game open en route to a 61-33 Northeast A League win.
It was Colvilleâs first win of the season against four losses.
The win came on the heels of a 57-47 loss at Deer Park back on Dec. 16.
CWO4 USN (Ret.) Richard Charles Ohlemacher passed away in Colville on Dec. 11, 2014. He was born the son of Douglas and Laverne (Rau) Ohlemacher on Jan. 10, 1934 in Detroit, Michigan.
Richard grew up and attended school in Michigan. After graduating from high school, Richard enlisted in the United States Navy. He attended boot camp in San Diego, California in 1952, and his first duty station was in Port Hueneme. Richard was stationed on the USS Carpenter and USS Stoddard, both destroyers, during the 1950âs out of Pearl Harbor.
Robert âBobâ Orin Bennett Sr., age 92, passed away on Dec. 5, 2014 in Colville. Bob was born the son of Otto Ney and Adalaide Victoria (Bell) Bennett on March 12, 1922 on the family farm in Beldenville, Wisconsin. He inherÂŹited the family farming spirit of hard work, strong hands, quick wit, and story telling.
After graduating from high school, Bob enlisted in the United States Marine Corps in 1942, and proudly served his country for four years in the U.S. Marine Corps. Each of his four sons also proudly served their country in the Marine Corps.
Donald Disque of Orient passed away on Friday, Dec. 12 at Providence Mt. Carmel Hospital in Colville after a long battle with Parkinsonâs disease. He went peacefully to Our Father surrounded by the love of his family. He was a giving, kind, patient and gentle man.
Don was born Sept. 18, 1929 to Irma and Gus Disque in New York City, New York. He attended LaSalle Academy Catholic High School where he ran track. His two-mile relay team held the outdoor record for all Catholic high schools in 1947 and the indoor record in 1948.
COLVILLE--The Libraries of Stevens County will be eliminating Saturday hours at the Kettle Falls, Colville, Chewelah, Loon Lake, and Lakeside libraries starting January, 2015. After the recent levy failure, library staff and library board members met to finalize a budget for 2015. Over the course of the fall, there had been a hiring freeze when two employees left the library to take other jobs. A total of 60 staff hours were left vacated.

Before retiring last month as the city of Colvilleâs building official after 26 years, Bob Cleaver offered a few statistics about building activity in town during 2014 and a glimpse of whatâs in the hopper for 2015.
