Before retiring last month as the city of Colville’s building official after 26 years, Bob Cleaver offered a few statistics about building activity in town during 2014 and a glimpse of what’s in the hopper for 2015.

Colville Tree of Sharing still has tags to fill

The Colville Tree of Sharing is now open and needs support. Sponsored by the Colville Rotary Club, the tree is located in the Key Bank lobby at 211 South Main Street and is open Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
The Tree of Sharing gives citizens and businesses in the Colville area an opportunity to brighten the holiday season for children in Stevens County. There are currently 130 tags remaining on the tree.
Stop by Key Bank and select a gift tag from the tree, or drop off a donation. Generosity will help a child who otherwise may not receive a gift this Christmas.

Chewelah off to a slow start

The Jenkins High girl’s basketball team heads into the 2014-2015 season with a deep and experienced roster. The Cougars are ready to move up in the standings of the Northeast A League with heavy doses of athleticism and team basketball.
“Things are looking up,” said head coach Tom Skok. “Our kids are playing hard and putting in the time…it’s starting to show up on the court.”

The Jenkins High wrestling program began its 2014 season with a new head coach (but a familiar face) and the same mission of moving as many wrestlers through district and onto state in Tacoma.
Leading the Cougars this season is longtime assistant wrestling coach and football head coach, Jim Fisk.

Colville comes up inches short of 1A grid title bid

State 1A’s two
best slug it out

Cascade Christian’s defense came up with its biggest stop in school history early last Saturday afternoon to preserve a dramatic and pretty much heart-stopping 27-26 overtime win over Colville High (12-1) in the Class 1A championship game.
For the Indians, who came in ranked second or third in state polls most of the season, it was a gut-wrenching end to an historic season that saw the country boys from the ‘Ville reach the state semifinals for the first time and vault into the championship game at the venerable Tacoma Dome.

Kettle Falls High School students looking for career opportunities

Kettle Falls High School is also hoping to provide students with a Job Shadow opportunity. Job shadowing will take place during the month of February. There are a total of 68 sophomores that we will be transporting in small numbers throughout the community to job shadow. We ask that you have one student on any given day (your availability) and we will provide you with resumes and generic job applications from the students that are interested in your career so that you can select and know about anyone coming to job shadow.
