Charles “Ray” Kurtak passed away peacefully at his home in Rovana on June 24, 2014. A week earlier, he had celebrated his 94th birthday, an occasion shared with family and many long-time friends.

Roy Joseph Codere, a ten-year resident of Colville, passed away on July 23, 2014 in Spokane at the age of 82. He was born on Sep.8, 1931 in Lake Linden, MI to Stanley and Eliza¬beth (Racine) Codere.
Roy started his education in Lake Linden and gradu¬ated high school there in 1949. After graduating, he went into the United States Air Force in 1952 and in 1956 was hon¬orably discharged.

Ivy King

Ivy Mae (Lettenmaier) King passed away on July 12, 2014 at the age 80 at her sister's home in Springfield, OR. Ivy Mae was born July 21, 1933 to her parents, Andrew and Lillian Lettenmaier, in Sanborn, ND. She was the third of four children.
The family moved to Oregon in 1942, only to return to Valley City, ND in 1946. In January 1950 the family loaded up all the belongings they could fin in the car and moved west again to Junction City, OR.

Carnes wins second straight Tiger Triathlon

this time around

Former Colville resident Jesse Carnes wasn’t pushed in last Saturday’s running of the Tiger Triathlon, but he still managed to lower his overall time from an inaugural Tiger Tri win last July.
Carnes (1:39:41) finished nine-minutes ahead of second place finisher Keith Hertel of St. Maries, Idaho. Hertel, 51, crossed the finish line at Colville High School in 1:48:23. Darren Wolley of Spokane finished third (1:52:50), seven seconds ahead of fourth place Chris Hoch of Nine Mile Falls.

That is basically what happened when Kettle Falls Masonic Lodge #130 spread the word that it was collecting do¬nations for victims of the Carlton Complex fire, especially the Twisp and Methow Valley area residents.

Fund-raiser on to start Northport Jr. High football

For the first time in school history, Northport Junior High School plans to field a football team this fall. That is, if enough funding can be raised to purchase equipment.
A meeting to discuss the junior high and high school football programs will be held Monday, August 11 at 6 p.m. at Northport School, according to NHS football coach, Shane Fox.
“It will be an informational meeting,” Fox said. “We want to talk about the varsity and junior high football programs and some of the fund-raisers we have planned to raise money (for junior high football).”

Bob Haney Memorial features 20 teams

Friday afternoon

The annual Bob Haney Memorial Baseball Tournament, a key element of any August Rendezvous in the Park celebration, will get underway Friday afternoon at 2 p.m. on four Colville fields.
Ten teams will compete in the 12U portion of the tournament and 10 more teams are entered in the 10U (pool play). Colville 12U and 10U will host their respective tournaments, which will be played at the Colville City Park field and on three softball diamonds that have been converted to baseball fields at Vaagen Park.

The golf course is running fast and firm. The greens are some of the best in the region and despite all the heat, our dedicated group of volunteers continues to keep the golf course in great shape. Thanks for all you do!
In July, we started what we’re calling our Sunday Afternoon Geography Special. From 3 to 8 p.m. on Sunday’s (July 13, 20, 27 and August 3), we’ve got a deal that just can’t be beaten.

Vernon Filler

Vernon Justus Filler was born Feb. 25, 1946, in Harvey, ND to Herbert and Antonia (Welk) Filler. He passed away on July 13, 2014 after suffering a second stroke.
His childhood years were spent on the family farm, attending elementary school in Orrin, ND. After working at various jobs in North Dakota, he came to South Dakota and learned the bakery business from his brothers. He worked in Pierre, South Dakota before relocating to Washington state.
