The Department of Ecology plans to conduct a clean-up project (Interim Action) at the former site of Colville Post & Poles, Inc.
The site, which covers nearly 23 acres northwest of Colville, and along Hwy. 395, was used as a wood treating facility many years ago.
According to DOE Site Manager, Jeremy Schmidt, the work is necessary in part because back in 1989, an above ground storage tank containing pentachlorophenol (PCP) ruptured and released 10,000 gallons of chemicals into the ground.
Charleen Frances Tharaldson, age 80, of Colville, went home to be with her Lord on Feb. 1, 2015 in Colville. She was born on Nov. 5, 1934 in Jordan, MT, the daughter of Charles Franklin and Maxine (Hubbard) Hawkins.
Mr. Wayne Delbert Schwenke, age 64 of Chatsworth, GA passed away on Feb. 2, 2015 at Hamilton Medical Center surrounded by his loving family.
Wayne was preceded in death by his mother, Martha Chapman Schwenke; his father, Herbert Schwenke; a sister, Dorothy Krause; a brother, Francis Schwenke.
He is survived by his sons, Darren Schwenke of Kettle Falls; Nathan Schwenke and wife Rammie, Evans; Darrell Schwenke, Canon City, CO, and daughter, Jayne Watson and husband Jason, of Chatsworth; step-daughter, Carey Sempf, Chatsworth; and his life-long love, Jeannine Drake, Chatsworth.
Gene Evelyn Walch died peacefully at her home at the Forest Hill Manor, Pacific Grove, CA, on Feb. 2, 2015 at the age of 95. Born Gene Evelyn Graham in Colville, she was the daughter of her beloved parents, Clara and Grover Graham, and sister to one brother, Grover Graham Jr.
Lloyd Ferdinand Humphrey Sr. passed away on Feb. 4, 2015 in Kettle Falls. He was born the son of Lysle Ferdinand and Violet Ruth (Kyllo) Humphrey on Jan. 8, 1935 in Colville.
Lloyd grew up and attended school in Kettle Falls. In 1950, Lloyd enlisted in the United States Army and proudly served his country in the Korean War. Following his honorable disÂcharge in 1955, Lloyd returned to Spokane and continued to serve his country by enlisting in the National Guard, serving for 20 years.
Laurie Colette Sessman passed away on January 30, 2015 in Colville, WA. She was born the daughter of Floyd M. Matthews and Betty J. Sadler on November 4, 1949 in Los Angeles, CA. Laurie was raised and attended school in southern California, graduating from Glendora High School in 1967. Following high school, Laurie attended and graduated from the University Of Southern California School Of Medicine, Department of Psychiatry and served her community as a chemical dependency counselor in the Los Angeles area.
Marjorie Isabel âMargeâ Young (Snow) passed away Jan. 18th, 2015 at the age of 92. Marge was born April 6, 1922 in Raidersburg, MT, to Raymond and Lila Snow. Marge was the oldest of four sisters, Muriel (Sis), Betty and Donna.
From a young age, Marge took dance lessons and learned to toe tap. She and her sister, Sis, were asked to dance at many social events and churches. Marge collected angels from all across the world. Perhaps her love for them started when she played the part of one at a church Christmas pageant in Butte, MT., where she was flown across the stage on wires.
Francis âFrankâ Paul Adams, 97, was born March 7, 1917 in Quail Farm, Illinois to Oley and Rosa Adams. He passed away Jan. 25, 2015 at Wildbriar Ranch in Gifford.
He married Gladys Faye (age 92) on Oct. 28, 1983 in Wenatchee. Frank and Faye lived in the Hunters/Gifford area for over 30 years. He was a lifetime member of the National Rifle Association.
Elaine Ann Mason, a longtime resident of Northport, passed away in Providence Sacred Heart Hospital in Spokane on Jan. 21, 2015, at the age of 68. She was born on August 1, 1946 to Wesley and Norma (Ferris) Anderson in Renton.
Cecil âManceâ Manfred Leewright, passed away on Jan. 16, 2015 in Colville. He was born in Holdenville, Oklahoma, on Sept. 12, 1930.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Naomi; parents, Porter and Mamie Leewright; sibilings, Paul Leewright, Ed Leewright, Purvis Leewright, and Carol Hickman, and great-grand-daughter Samantha Denison.
