A longtime resident of Kettle Falls, Norman passed away peacefully at Sacred Heart Hospital in Spokane Nov. 7, 2011 after a brief illness.
Kettle Falls Pack and Troop 965 gathered over 1,350 pounds of food for the Kettle FAlls Food Bank. Items were donated by residents of Kettle Falls during the recent Scouting for Food campaign. The Kettle Falls Food Bank is still accepting donations for this food drive. Donations may be left at the Kettle Falls Food Bank, located at 560 Meyers Street. Call 509-738-2326 for more information.
November 14th
The Colville Rotary Club's Tree of Sharing is gearing up for the 2011 Holiday Season. The tree will begin operations Monday, Nov. 21 at KeyBank, 211 S. Main in Colville. Hours of operation will be Monday through Thursday 9 a.m.-5 p.m. and Friday's 9 a.m.-5:30 p.m. The last day for tag selection and returning purchased items will be Friday, Dec. 9.
Each gift tag hung on the Tree of Sharing represents the Christmas wishes and needs of an individual in the community.

Editor’s note: Angus Merrill, 88, is a former Colville resident with some strong ties to the Colville valley (he is related to Colville’s well-known Merrill clan).
The longtime Big Sandy, MT resident has fond memories of his early years in the Colville valley.
Born in St. Maries, Idaho in 1923, Merrill remembered living in Colville as a youngster and later in the China Creek and Bossburg areas.
Married to the former Ruth Rutledge, a life-long Montana girl, Angus moved to Big Sandy in 1947 where he worked as a farmer on the expansive Rutledge family ranch.
November 9th
Colville annexes regional
Top-ranked Colville High rolled through the Region 6/7 volleyball tournament at Chelan last Saturday, beating Cascade 25-15, 25-12, 25-20 and then downing Freeman (for the fourth time this season) in the regional championship, 25-21, 25-9, 25-19.
Jacy Vining had nine kills and six blocks for the Indians, and setter Leanna Carr added 27 assists in the Freeman win. In the win over Cascade, Carr had 31 assists and Benchwarmer’s Athlete of the Week, Erin Little, added 10 blocks, eight ace serves and 20 kills in the two matches.
Pietroburgo, Carpenter lead Indians to second again
Saving their best race of the season for last, Colville High School’s boy’s cross-country team ran its way to second place at the Washington State Championship Saturday at Sun Willows Golf Course in Pasco.
In what have must have felt like déjà vu, the local harriers, led by senior Biagio Pietroburgo’s fifth place and Kevin Carpenter’s 8th place finish, annexed the runner-up spot behind Northeast A League rival Lakeside. It was Colville’s second straight runner-up finish at Pasco.
Minnie Domenica Regis Lang, 97, a resident of Colville, passed away on Nov. 3, 2011. She was born on Dec. 14, 1913 in Pheonix, B.C. Canada, the daughter of John Batista Regis and Louise (Golletti) Regis.
Minnie moved to Spokane with her family as an infant. She attended first through sixth grade at the McKinley Grade School and then graduated from Libby Junior High School. Minnie then stayed at home to help her mother and family.
Myra F. Kearney, a resident of Kettle Falls, passed away on Nov. 4, 2011 in Colville at the age of 86. She was born on August 10, 1925 in College View, NE, the daughter of Homer and Olive (Boutelle) Saxton.

Daniel Robert Blackman, beloved husband, son, father, uncle, and friend, was called home to be with Jesus on Thursday, Nov. 3, 2011, at the age of 59. Born in Wessington Springs, South Dakota on December 1, 1951, Dan lived a full and vivid life. While his parents may not have known it at the time, Robert and Levonne (Gillette) Blackman, surely couldn’t have expected the significant impact Dan would have on the lives of all with whom he came in contact.
