Deanna Draney is an accomplished local artist and craftswoman from Colville and one of the organizers behind the North Country Artisan's Market (see story in this week's newspaper). She is also the owner of Blue Lotus Stained Glass.
Tell us a bit about yourself. âš
Iâve been living in the Colville area for about 29 years. I met my husband, Kelly, 18 years ago and we are now raising our four kids.
October 31st
For those lamenting the end of the farmerâs market season, do not despair. The North Country Artisansâ Market (NCAM) is picking up where the Northeast Washington and Colville Farmersâ Markets left off. Vendors, merchants and artisans will be plying their wares inside the November Coalition at 282 West Astor Avenue, Colville every Wednesday from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. through Dec. 21.
Though last Wednesdayâs market was relatively small, event organizer Sonia Christen says the event is still new and will hopefully grown as word spreads.

Don âDuckâ Drake loves where he lives. He has resided in Kettle Falls his whole life and has no plans to leave. As a result of that familiarity, he is well aware of the antics people, specifically young people, can get drawn into when they are feeling the occasional monotony of small town life.

Ronald Dean Meadows entered into rest on Sept. 17, 2011 at his home, surrounded by his loving wife, Debbie. Ronald was the third son of Roy and Myrtle Meadows, born Dec. 5, 1952 in Chewelah. Ronald joined the Air Force right after graduating from Chewelah High School in 1971. He was honorably discharged in August 1977. He then went to work for K-L Manufacturing in Chewelah. He worked there for 18 years until the company closed its doors in 2002. He then went to work for Wal-Mart in Colville. He worked there until his death. On Nov.
Nicholas âNickâ J. Godes, a 44-year resident of the Colville area, passed away on Oct. 18, 2011. Nick was born on June 11, 1931 in Richardton, ND, the son of Mike and Fillameno âMinnieâ (Steiner) Godes.
He attended first grade through third grade in Hawmarth, ND and then moved to Richardton where he finished eighth grade. Nick then began working for local farmers, as well as turning a wrench at the John Deere dealership. On March 19, 1952, he entered the U.S. Army and served overseas in Japan, Okinawa and Korea. He was honorably discharged on March 1, 1954 at Camp Stoneman, CA.
Mary Ann Dolman, a 17-year resident of Kettle Falls, passed away on Oct. 17, 2011 in Colville at the age of 78. She was born on Sept. 7, 1933 in Downers Grove, Il, the daughter of Philip and Olga (Schaefer) May.
Mary Louise Cornelius, 89, of Kettle Falls, passed away on October 18, 2011 in Colville. Mary was born on March 20, 1922 in Conway, the daughter of John and Karen (Berquist) LoftÂŹstrom.
She enjoyed telling stories of her and her husbandâs camping and fishing adventures in Alaska. Mary and her husband attended many of his Naval reunions, which she thoroughly enjoyed. She loved her family get-togethers. Mary always had a smile on her face, was dearly loved and will be missed by many.
Mary was preceded in death by her daughter, Joanne Nordby.
Donald âDonâ Stratton, a past resident of Colville, passed away on Oct. 23, 2011 in Spokane at the age of 85. He was born on Nov. 4, 1925, the son of Glen and Ethel Stratton.
Carolyn V. Eseke passed away on Oct. 3, 2011 after a long illness. She was preceded in death by her son, James. She is survived by her daughter, Lorraine Williams; grandchildren Michael Williams, Kimarra Howard (Joe), Richard Eseke, Eric Eseke, and four great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by sisters Kathren and Irene; a brother, Richard, and many nieces and nephews. She has gone to a better place. No funeral service will be held per her request.
In its nearly two years as a resurrected high school football program, Northport High hasnât faced a game with nearly the implications of Friday nightâs Northeast 1B North clash at Cusick. Game time is 7 p.m. Northport (3-1, 5-3) took care of business last Friday, blasting overmatched Republic 58-16 and making Homecoming faithful happy. While the Mustangs were taking care of business, Cusick (3-1, 5-3), struggling with injuries to key players, was upset 24-20 by Wilbur-Creston (1-2, 3-5). It was the Wildcatsâ first win in the Northeast 1B South division.
