Colville High soccer team rolls into first place

April 21, 2015

Indians hold
off Lakeside

A quick, aggressive Colville High soccer team moved into first place in the Northeast A League last Thursday with a wildly entertaining 4-3 win on the home pitch over perennial league power Lakeside.
Colville (4-0 NEA, 6-1 overall) started the week with a 7-1 win at Deer Park (Tuesday). In that mismatch, Alberto Cisneros continued to impress with three goals and an assist for the Tribe. League scoring leader Chris Benson added two goals and a pair of assists for a high-powered offense.

JHS pummeled
by Lakeside

The Jenkins High softball team got back into action after Spring Break and picked up their first Northeast A League win of the season, a 12-3 romp over Medical Lake last week. But the Cougars were swept by hard-hitting Lakeside in a Saturday doubleheader, 9-1 and 16-1.
At the midpoint of the season, JHS is 1-4 in the NEA, and seems poised to make some movement up the league standings. Head coach Tom Skok sees a lot of positives out on the diamond.

Kettle Falls in the mix for the NE-2B post-season

Bulldogs go 1-3
during the week

Heading down the homestretch in the Northeast 2B baseball race, Kettle Falls High (8-6) is still very much in the mix for a District 7 2B playoff berth. The District playoffs begin May 5.
KFHS, 1-3 last week after dropping a doubleheader to NE 2B league leader Colfax (11-0) and splitting last Saturday at Davenport, are currently in fourth place behind Colfax, Wilbur-Creston and Davenport. Northwest Christian and Kettle Falls are both tied in fifth place, but the Bulldogs beat the Crusaders in runs scored (tie-breaker).

Liberty, S-dale
on tap this week

Kettle Falls High (8-6, 8-4) is looking for a strong regular season finish in the Northeast 2B fast-pitch softball circuit.
Coming off a week where the Lady Bulldogs went 1-3, the strong finish is imperative.
KFHS was routed by one of the strongest 2B softball programs (every Colfax program?) around in Colfax. The Bulldogs of the Palouse downed Kettle Falls 15-1 (five innings) and 9-0.
On Saturday at Davenport, Kettle split with the Gorillas, losing the opener 14-0 and rebounding for an 11-4 second game win.

Busy week in store for Colville track & field

Interstate, Pasco
up this week

Like most area high school teams, Colville High got a respite from meets during Spring Break. But that will change this week. The Indians will send some athletes to one of the biggest meets of its kind in the West—The Pasco Invitational on Saturday. Entry into the Pasco Invite is via qualifying standard.
Other CHS athletes will compete in the annual Interstate Rivals Invitational at Freeman High School on Friday (3:30 p.m. start).
Before Spring Break last week, CHS competed back on April 3 at the Deer Park Invitational (25 teams).

CHS hosts 29
team Invite

The annual Ezra Gordon track and field Invitational last Saturday at Colville High School may go down in history as the largest one-day sporting event in Colville history. If it wasn’t the largest, then last year’s 30-team event might have been.
With several hundred athletes, more than 1,600 entries and 29 high school teams from around mostly Eastern Washington, who would argue the point?

Colville sweeps Medical Lake

April 1, 2015

Unbeaten Indians busy this week

Colville High (5-0) swept three Northeast A League baseball games last week. The Indians got solid pitching and timely hitting in blasting Chewelah, 17-0, at home last Tuesday (five innings) before taking two from visiting Medical Lake last Saturday, 9-3, 4-3.
Colville faces a busy slate of games this week. The Indians traveled to Chewelah on Tuesday for a rematch with the Cougars (4 p.m. start).
On Thursday, the Indians head to Nine Mile Falls and a single game with Lakeside (4 p.m.).

Indians 1-1 after opening week

After splitting a pair of match-ups to get the season underway last week, the Colville High boy’s soccer team will face Newport and Riverside this week in Northeast A League encounters before taking the week off for Spring Break.
Colville (1-1) will travel to Riverside on Tuesday for a match on the Rams’ pitch. Starting time is 4 p.m.
Colville will return home on Thursday against the same Newport club that downed Colville 3-1 last week in a non-league fray on the Indians’ pitch. That match will also start at 4 p.m.
