Harry "Ed" Benshoof

Harry “Ed” Benshoof, born Jan 17, 1942 in Bowbells ND, passed away Thursday, May 31, 2012 in Kingman, AZ where he has lived the last 15 years.
Ed proudly served in the U.S. Navy on the USS Ranger after growing up on the farm in Flaxton, ND. After returning from the Navy, Ed resumed farming followed by working in heating/refrigeration, trucking, and mechanic work.
Ed had many passions and hobbies that he enjoyed. His hobbies included restoring classic cars and trucks, showing cars, traveling and showing horses.

Margaret Thomas

Margaret J. Thomas, a 59-year resident of Colville, passed away on June 11, 2012 in Spokane. Margaret was born on March 27, 1919 in Yakima, the daughter of Frank Floyd and Hilda Gertrude (Hansen) Briskey.
She was raised in Yakima where she attended school and graduated in 1936. Margaret then worked in the family orchards and packing houses. It was in 1946, that she met and married James Lowell Thomas in Yakima. On Aug. 1, 1948, their son, Gary, was born.

Marion Ethel Holland

Marion Ethel Holland, age 98, passed away peacefully in her sleep on May 31, 2012 at Pinewood Terrace, her home for the past few years.

James Crawford

June 13, 2012

James “Jim” R. Crawford, 68, a resident of Springdale, passed away at his home June 8, 2012. He was born in Salt Lake City, UT to James and Wanda (Leggroan) Crawford.
Jim is survived by his daughter, Anna Crawford of Spokane; sons, Rashad Crawford of Spokane, and Christopher Crawford of Des Moines, IA; five grandchildren and one great-grand-daughter.
He was preceded in death by his father; one brother, Terry Crawford.
A memorial service for James will be held at his home, 10 a.m. – 7 p.m., Friday, June 15.

Gene Lewin

Gene Lewin was born to Clarence (Curly) and Hazel Lewin on Dec. 23, 1928 in Cambridge, IA, and went to his reward on June 10, 2012 in Colville. The family moved to Idaho in 1929 where Curly worked for the railroad.
Gene married Colleen Brown in 1950. He went to work for the Union Pacific and settled in Donnelly, Idaho, where they raised their three children.
In 1965, Gene was called to the ministry and went to work for the American Sunday School Union until ill health forced him to retire. He and Colleen moved to Inchelium in 1974.

David Kingsbury

David Chris Kingsbury, a longtime resident of Kettle Falls, passed away on June 7, 2012 in Spokane. David was born on June 10, 1960 in Los Angeles, CA.
He was raised by his father, Larry Horton, and mother, Virginia, in California. He resided in several California communities growing up. Their family traveled often to fulfill obligations of work.

Allen Alexander Antoine

Allen Alexander Antoine, a resident of Electric City passed away on May 27, 2012 in Spokane at the age of 62. Allen was born on Sept. 2, 1949, in Vernon, B.C., the son of Alex and Irene Frances (Gabriel) Antoine.
He was raised in Danville and attended school in Curlew. Allen graduated in 1969 from Curlew High School and then continued his education at Big Bend Community College in Moses Lake.

Tribe 18 U second in Coeur d’ Alene tourney

The Colville Tribe 18U softball team finished second at last weekend’s annual Coeur d’ Alene Crush Tournament.
The Tribe, comprised of current Colville High varsity and non-varsity players, opened the tournament on a wet Saturday with a 9-1 win over the Yakima Steelers (six innings).
On Sunday, the Tribe smashed Trail/Castlegar, B.C. 23-0 (three innings) before edging the Montana Avalanche 6-5 and getting past the Spokane Stealth 9-5 in one semifinal game.
In the championship, Colville fell to the Billings/Butte Dirt, 8-6.

Anderson tops soggy Chewelah Amateur tourney

A field of 41 golfers, most of them from the Chewelah Golf & Country Club, braved constant rain during Saturday’s first round of the 2012 Chewelah Amateur Golf Tournament.
The weather was markedly better during Sunday’s final 18 holes.
Topping the field and taking home Low Gross of the Field honors was Jason Anderson of Spokane. Anderson toured the tight, tree-lined course in 147.
Chewelah’s Jack George captured Low Net of the Field honors.

Blaze Logsdon will work Panorama Rodeo

Will head up clown, barrelman duties

Scott “Blaze” Logsdon, on his first rodeo tour, will be the Rodeo Clown/Barrelman for the 71st running of the Panorama Rodeo Friday and Saturday, June 22-23 in the Northeast Washington Fairgrounds arena.
The Panorama Rodeo will be a two-day show this year. Pro-West performances will be held Friday night at 7 p.m. and at 2 p.m. on Saturday.
Slack and run after the Friday night performance.
