Rendezvous Days return to Yep Kanum

Colville Rendezvous Days returns to Yep Kanum Park this weekend, July 31-Aug. 2.
The cornerstone event of one of Colville’s busiest weekends of the year is the annual Rendezvous celebration.
“We have a great line-up in terms of entertainment and activities,” says encampment manager Laurie Engell. “We’re excited for this year’s event.”

Kettle North Complex fire continues

The Kettle North Complex was taken today at 6 a.m., by the New Mexico Type 3 Incident Management Team. Previously, it was being managed by the Three Rivers Ranger District. The Kettle North Complex is made up by 6 fires. Four of the six fires are either contained or out. The Profanity Peak Fire will have approximately 50 firefighters on it today, which will help with the containment of this fire. Firefighters made progress on this fire yesterday.

Two boys killed in Colville fire

On 07-17-15 at 01:42 a.m. the Colville Fire Department was called to a structure fire at 471 N. Cedar. The structure was a two story apartment building with a single apartment on each floor. Two engine companies and a ladder company responded. Upon arrival, crews observed heavy fire on the east end of the second floor, with fire extending throughout the upper floor and into the lower apartment.

The fire had already progressed to a stage that firefighters were unable to make immediate entry and began an exterior attack, cooling and extinguishing the fire until entry could be made.

Explosion at Newport Business

On Tuesday, July 14, at approximately 8:53 p.m. the Pend Oreille County Sheriff 911 Dispatch Center received several 911 calls reporting a large explosion at the Zodiac Aerospace facility located at 501 North Newport Ave. in Newport.

Suspect in Safeway robbery arrested

Colville police have arrested the suspect accused of robbing the Colville Safeway pharmacy Monday, July 13.
At approximately 1 a.m. Tuesday morning the Colville Police Department (CPD) with assistance from the Stevens County Sheriff's Office and Kettle Falls Police (KFP) arrested 22-year-old Joshua C. Means of Kettle Falls on charges of Robbery in the 1st degree.

Deep Lake fire at 90% containment

The Deep Lake fire started about 4 pm on the afternoon of July 8th. The fire was burning in heavy timber on a steep slope. County Road 9445 is closed to through traffic for one mile starting at North Shore Drive north of Deep Lake, due to fire traffic, rolling rocks and falling trees. This is a staffed road block. OPEN TO LOCAL RESIDENTS ONLY. Yesterday the Deep Lake fire received a significant amount of rain. The firefighters began rehabilitation of the dozer and hand lines. Firefighters continued to mop up all day. There have been no injuries on this incident.

July 8th

231 fire in Springdale at 40-percent containment

Firefighters continue to work on the 231 Fire (Rail Canyon Road) which has burned 930 acres since it started last weekend.
The fire, which claimed several buildings including a home, is thought to be human caused. According to Department of Natural Resources, the exact cause is still under investigation.
As off Tuesday, July 7, the fire was at 40-percent containment. Crews have constructed a fire line around the perimeter. Authorities say smoke will continue to be visible for some time as crews extinguish heat pockets within the perimeter.

Williams Lake Road fire at 100% containment

NEWS FROM THE FIRELINE: Yesterday crews finished up with the majority of mop-up and rehabilitation work on the fire. The majority of the firefighters assigned to the fire will be demobilized this morning. Today at 2:00 PM the type 3 incident management team will transfer fire command back to the local jurisdiction. A small contingent of firefighters will remain on the scene throughout the weekend to patrol and maintain the fire perimeter.
