The author of the pro¬posal, Peter Quinn, withdrew his proposal, saying he “didn’t mean to offend anyone,†and that his desire to construct the temporary peace sign was not politically motivated.
Though the phrase is “In like a lion, out like a lamb,†there was nothing docile about the month of March’s exit, as significant rainfall broke records in the Colville Valley.
As of Saturday, March 31, the area had received 4.25 inches of rain for the month of March, exceeding the old record of 3.55 inches in 1987.
“It’s a weather occurrence of note, but it is that time of year,†says Meteorologist John Livingston of the National Weather Service Office in Spokane. “We had a dry winter for the 2011-2012 season and it looks like the wet weather is just starting to kick in.â€

Area Democrats looking to take part in the Stevens County Democratic Party Caucuses will have an opportunity on April 15 at various locations across the county. The caucuses will give local Democrats the opportunity to participate in the delegate election process and work on the county platform.
The Democratic Party Caucuses are following the Stevens County Republican Party caucuses held in March.
Craig Cosby was found guilty of Murder in the First Degree by a jury in Stevens County Superior Court Friday afternoon. The 12-person jury unanimously found Cosby guilty of shooting and killing his wife, Susan Cosby, at the couple's Marcus home in 2009. Sentencing is scheduled for Tuesday, April 17.

Colville High School junior Aubrey Milatz won the title of Miss Colville at last Saturday’s annual Miss Colville program in the CHS Auditorium. The Miss Colville event serves as a scholarship program for local 11th grade female students, and is sponsored in part by the Colville Chamber of Commerce and area businesses. Ten girls participated in this year’s program. Milatz, daughter of Steven and Angela Milatz, also won the scholastic, spirit and judges’ choice awards. First Alternate is Taryn Edlin, daughter of Kevin and Cherri Edlin.
