January 29th
Emotions ran high at last Tuesdayâs Colville City Council meeting when the council voted against passing a proclamation that would have recÂŹognized Feb. 4, 2013 as Second Amendment Appreciation Day. It was standing room only in the council chambers with people trickling out into the adjacent hallway.
January 28th
In the wake of the Sandy Hook massacre in Connecticut, Colville School District Superintendent Michael Cashion and the Colville School Board discussed measures that will be taken to improve security at the districtâs schools. That discourse came at the monthly school board meeting on Jan. 23.
The administration in the district has taken a proactive stance rather than a reactive response to the latest school shooting tragedy.

The air is crisp and cold, but Kimo Morrison is never the less at his barbecue outside his house, proficiently laying marinated steaks on the grill. Dressed in a t-shirt and shorts, he seems impervious to the chilly temperature.
âGo on inside,â he says in welcome. âNicoleâs got the table set and weâre just waiting on the steaks.â

In 2013 why not consider becoming a Hospice of Spokane (HOS) volunteer? There is always a need for dedicated, compassionate men and women to assist the Hospice team in the care plan for a patient and their family, particularly in the Tri-County area, says Volunteer Coordinator Sharon Angle.
âIt would be really nice to have more volunteers for this in our area, particularly men,â states Angle. âWe hope people will take advantage of this training; all it requires is your time.â

The City of Colville is requesting comment or ideas regarding possible uses for, or possible sale or lease of publicly owned (City) land commonly known as âColville Mountainâ. The City owns approximately 250 acres around the landmark known as âthe Crossâ and is exploring ways of providing or increasing public benefit from the property, if any.
January 15th
âThe Colville community is our number one community blood drive,â stated Erin Meenach, recruitment coordinator for the Inland Northwest Blood Center, at the blood drive on Jan. 8.
Meenach said that of all the community drives INBC orchestrates, the Colville community drive is the best for INBC as far as donor numbers.
The blood drives are held every other month, second Tuesday of the odd months.

Jeff Tetrick has always had a fondness for both photography and painting, two art forms that demand a similar approach. They both require a good eye for color, composition, and the bigger picture, so to speak.
âAs an artist, I see beauty in a lot of things,â Tetrick says. âItâs a rare day when I donât see a good picture to take, and the painting keeps my eyes fresh and alert for details.â

The Colville City Police, with assistance from the Stevens County Sheriffâs Office, Washington State Patrol and the Washington State Patrol Crime Scene Response, are conducting a homicide investigation in Colville. On Jan. 10 at approximately 8:20 a.m., Colville Police responded to a call and located a deceased 56-year-old David Barr at 2072 Âœ West 2nd.
Barr was found dead with signs of trauma to his head and neck, says Stevens County Prosecuting Attorney Tim Rasmussen.
