After a long hiatus, the Kettle Falls Community Chest remodel has finally started. The building had housed both the Food Bank and the Thrift Store; due to lack of room, the Thrift Store had to be closed. “Yes, we are going to re-open it. It was based on donations only, we never had a fixed price on anything, and we’ve lost $4,000 in revenue per year; that doesn’t seem like a lot, but those are donations. We don’t pay for any of the items that we have, and we don’t demand prices on anything—at all,” said Director Susan Urhausen.
A little change of pace. That was what Wendy Granville was looking for when she and her family moved from Anacortes to Kettle Falls last year. But when it came to finding a job, Granville returned to what she knows---antiques. She recently opened A Kick in the Attic Antiques, located at 235 E. 3rd Kettle Falls. The store features antiques (of course), vintage items and consignment. Many of the goods Granville brought with her from the antique mall she owned and operated in Anacortes for 17 years named Days Gone By.

Woodland Theatre Productions in Kettle Falls is holding auditions for the musical Nunsense. Nunsense is a musical comedy written by Dan Goggin in 1985. Auditions will be Saturday Aug. 24 at 10 a.m. at Woodland Theatre.
"This show masks as a hilarious variety show put on by these five nuns,” explains di¬rector George Eberth. “It’s an off Broadway favorite and you really have to be made of stone not to laugh at it.”
Janice Weaver spends her days surrounded by movie stars and storytellers. As the owner and operator of Jim’s Video in Kettle Falls, the community’s last independent video store, it’s not a serious stretch to imagine Weaver as a modern-day keeper of tales in a time when supposed technological convenience fre¬quently chips away at human interaction by cutting out “the middle man.”
Though Weaver’s self-perception isn’t nearly as lofty, she enjoys what she does---after all, she’s been doing it for almost 30 years.
After Auto-Vue Drive In Theatre’s owner Steve Wisner made the announcement last year that he would close the over 60-year-old outdoor theatre at the end of this summer, community members and customers from near and far. Voiced their opposition.
