Democratic Party Caucuses April 15

April 2, 2012

Area Democrats looking to take part in the Stevens County Democratic Party Caucuses will have an opportunity on April 15 at various locations across the county. The caucuses will give local Democrats the opportunity to participate in the delegate election process and work on the county platform.
The Democratic Party Caucuses are following the Stevens County Republican Party caucuses held in March.

Guilty

March 30, 2012

Craig Cosby was found guilty of Murder in the First Degree by a jury in Stevens County Superior Court Friday afternoon. The 12-person jury unanimously found Cosby guilty of shooting and killing his wife, Susan Cosby, at the couple's Marcus home in 2009. Sentencing is scheduled for Tuesday, April 17.

Miss Colville changes crowns

Colville High School junior Aubrey Milatz won the title of Miss Colville at last Saturday’s annual Miss Colville program in the CHS Auditorium. The Miss Colville event serves as a scholarship program for local 11th grade female students, and is sponsored in part by the Colville Chamber of Commerce and area businesses. Ten girls participated in this year’s program. Milatz, daughter of Steven and Angela Milatz, also won the scholastic, spirit and judges’ choice awards. First Alternate is Taryn Edlin, daughter of Kevin and Cherri Edlin.

Rule requires pet dogs, cats and ferrets receive shot

For those who haven’t had their pets updated on rabies vaccinations, or who have just skipped the shots entirely, now is the time to think about scheduling that appointment with the veterinarian.
Handed down from the Washington State Board of Health last year, WAC 246-100-197 requires pet owners of dogs, cats and ferrets to receive up-to-date rabies vaccinations beginning Jan.1, 2012.

The “Great Unknown” at Kettle River Grange

The comical play “Charles Picket and the Great Unknown’ will be performed at the Kettle River Grange throughout the month of April. Written by Caitlyn Aubertin and directed by Sandra Walsh, the plot revolves around the unlikely and hilarious face-off between mobsters and hillbillies.
Performances are April 13 and 14 at 7 p.m., April 15 at 2 p.m., April 18 (family night) at 7 p.m., April 20 at 7 p.m., April 21 (dinner theatre) at 6 p.m. and April 22 at 2 p.m.

CHS senior’s project helps wounded soldiers

Upon meeting her, Elizabeth McKellar seems imbued with a sweet, sincere charm born of a desire to assist others. So naturally, the 17-year-old Colville High School senior gravitated toward an expression of compassion for her culminating senior project, which is required of all high school seniors in Washington State.
Colville High School requires seniors to complete at least 15 hours of work on their projects.

Miss Colville right around the corner

The Colville Chamber of Commerce will present the Miss Colville Scholarship Program titled "As Time Goes By" on Saturday, March 24 at 7 p.m. at the Colville High School auditorium.
Doors open at 6:30 p.m. Reserved seat tick¬ets are available for $10 each at the Colville Chamber of Commerce office now, or at the door on the night of the program. Chamber of¬fice hours are Monday-Friday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
“This year's show promises to be a very entertaining one,” says Miss Colville Director ,Kari Hubbard. “All of the girls are enthusiastic and ex¬tremely talented.”

Kettle Falls High students serve as pages in Olympia

OLYMPIA--Haley McIrvin and Emily Owens, both sophomores at Kettle Falls High School, participated in the Senate Page Program dur¬ing the fifth week of the 2012 session. McIrvin and Owens were sponsored by Sen. Bob Morton (R-Kettle Falls).

McCart announces candidacy for Stevens County Commissioner

Wes McCart has announced his candidacy for the Stevens County Commissioner seat in District 1.
Current District 1 Commissioner Larry Guenther announced he will not be seeking another term.
McCart, as a businessman and farmer, recognizes the need to expand economic base, grow the local economy, support good living wages, protect private property rights, and get government bureaucrats out of the way.
