Missing Colville girl found in Idaho

August 12, 2013

Law enforcement officers found Colville teenager Ashley Barbour Monday, Aug. 12 in Coeur d’Alene. The 14-year-old was last seen in Colville at her family's residence on July 26.
Coeur d’Alene Police found Barbour when they stopped a vehicle near 23rd and Lakeside Avenue around 3:37 p.m.

Nunsense auditions at Woodland Theatre

Woodland Theatre Productions in Kettle Falls is holding auditions for the musical Nunsense. Nunsense is a musical comedy written by Dan Goggin in 1985. Auditions will be Saturday Aug. 24 at 10 a.m. at Woodland Theatre.
"This show masks as a hilarious variety show put on by these five nuns,” explains di¬rector George Eberth. “It’s an off Broadway favorite and you really have to be made of stone not to laugh at it.”

Janice Weaver spends her days surrounded by movie stars and storytellers. As the owner and operator of Jim’s Video in Kettle Falls, the community’s last independent video store, it’s not a serious stretch to imagine Weaver as a modern-day keeper of tales in a time when supposed technological convenience fre¬quently chips away at human interaction by cutting out “the middle man.”
Though Weaver’s self-perception isn’t nearly as lofty, she enjoys what she does---after all, she’s been doing it for almost 30 years.

Chili cook-off could be one hot event

The upcoming Northwest International Chili Cook-off at the Northeast Washington Fairgrounds on Sept. 21 will be notable, lively and an enjoyable opportunity.
So says event organizer Bud Budinger, who, for the past year, along with his wife, Joanne, has been working to build participation in the event, which will feature contestants from Colville, Kettle Falls, Canada and even Bellingham, all vying for the coveted title of who has the best chili.
For those looking to participate and test their chili making expertise, it isn’t too late to enter.

Peach Crest fire put out in a hurry

The Kettle Falls Fire Department (KFFD) responded to an emergency call of a fire near Peach Crest Road last Friday, striking hard and fast to quell the flames that were poised to threaten over half a dozen homes in the area. Fire Districts #3, #8, and #7 were also called to the scene, along with the Department of Natural Resources (DNR), who also provided air support. In total, the fire consumed 3.25 acres, said DNR spokesperson Rette Bidstrup.
