Mabel Victoria Sampson Zaffke, 89, passed away on March 6, 2011 at the age of 89 in Chewelah.
Mabel was born Dec 17, 1922 in Kent to Charles Linn and Carolina Sampson. The parents had five children all now deÂ¬ceased. She grew up in Richmond, California and graduated from Richmond Union High School in 1940.
During WWII, she worked as a stockroom supervisor. After the war, Mabel moved to San Francisco where she met Daniel Zaffke. She and Daniel were married on June 3, 1948. They moved to Danielâ€™s farm in Colorado, and Kathrin was born to them in 1949.
Harriett Ruth Manion passed away peacefully on March 1, 2011 in Colville at the age of 78. Harriett was born June 7, 1932 in Billings, Montana, the younger daughter of Leonard and Ruth (Tehelka) Gilbert.

Elizabeth Anne (Sperry) Bacon, mother of two boys, wife to one, grandmother of five and friend to many, passed on Motherâ€™s Day, May 8, 2011. Longtime Deer Park resident and lover of her summer home at the Pend Oreille Lakes, purchased by her Grandpa Milliren in 1914, Elizabeth lived a full and enjoyable life of 90 years, keeping her home, loving her family and being an active community member.
Elizabeth would tell you that her family was her greatest joy and accomplishment.
Kathryn Elmera Cobain passed away peacefully on May 21, 2011 at the age of 99. She was preceded in death by her husband, Harry Howard Cobain, and grandson, Stephen Fausti. Kathryn was born in Waukon, Washington, the oldest child of Harry and Naomi DeChenne.
Sister Mary Esther Becker, OP, age 92, a resident of Chewelah, passed away on May 14, 2011 at St. Josephâ€™s Long Term Care in Chewelah. Sister Mary Esther was born on October 16, 1918 in Oberwuerzbach, Germany, the daughter of Alois Becker and Elisabetha Graf.
Nona Welch Delles passed away peacefully at her home in Springfield, Oregon on May 22, 2011.
A rosary will be said for her at the parish Church of the Immaculate Conception in Colville on Tuesday, May 31 at 7:30 p.m.
A requiem mass will be conducted at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, June 1 at the Church of the Immaculate Conception in Colville.
Burial will be at Mountain View Park Cemetery after the requiem mass followed by a wake at the Church of the Immaculate Conception.
Carolyn A. LaDuke-Hyde, 57, passed away Apr 9, 2011 after a one-year battle with cancer at her home in Honolulu, HI. Carolyn was born May 18, 1953 in Ione to Dale and Sylvia Anderson.
She attended school in Colville and graduated from Colville High School in 1971. She then attended college for one year at BYU-Hawaii, where she studied fashion. Carolyn moved back to Colville and lived there until 1992, when she left for Hawaii to work as an interior designer remodeling homes. In 2001, she started working as special projects and task manager for Straub Medical Clinic in Hawaii Kai.
Mildred Elizabeth Ensor, a longtime resident of Colville, passed away on May 19, 2011 in Colville at the age of 76. She was born on November 22, 1934 in Colville, the daughter of Herman Henry and Myrtle Emma (Clark) Rasching.
Lawrence R. Fry, a lifetime resident of Inchelium, passed away May 21, 2011 in Colville at the age of 86. He was born in Bonners Ferry, Idaho on August 12, 1924, the son of Frank and May (Elliott) Fry.
Rudy Krager was born Dec. 24, 1944. He passed away May 6, 2011 in Yakima.
Mr. Krager is survived by his wife, Bobby Jean Krager; four children, Pamela Rose, Robert (Brad) Brazel, Rudy Krager II and Brian Brazel; and four grandchildren.
He was born in McMinnville, Oregon and raised in Tillamook, Oregon. He moved to Kettle Falls in 1965 as a Boise Cascade foreman. He retired from Boise in 2000. He later worked for an armored car company and retired from that position in 2010.
