Richard Chapman Thompson passed away on August 30, 2013 in Colville. He was born on Feb. 23, 1928 in Chicago, Illinois, the son of Fred and Gladys (Dill) Thompson.
Richard grew up in Iowa and relocated to Ione with his family when he was in the eighth grade. After graduating from high school in Ione, Richard enlisted in the United States Army and proudly served his country in the Korean War. Following his honorable discharge, Richard attended and graduated from Eastern Washington University with a Masterâ€™s Degree and taught at elementary schools throughout Washington State.
May Wilma Brittain, a longtime Kettle Falls resident, passed away on Sept. 10, 2013 in Colville. She was born on Dec. 6, 1924 in Springfield, OR, the daughter of Ora Lee and Alma Ana (Fischer) Richardson.
May grew up at Diamond Lake and attended school in Newport. She married Marvin Brittain on Feb. 7, 1941 and spent the next 52 years together until Marvinâ€™s passing.
Joyce Seymour passed away peacefully at her residence in Colville August 12, 2013. She had fought a long hard battle with COPD and emphysema. She considered herself lucky that she was able to stay home due to the care of her daughter, Kris; son Don, and two granddaughters, Brandi and KaLelia, at the end, the wonderful Hospice staff. Joyce passed away knowing all of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren were there by her side.
Elaine Merrill passed away peacefully on Tuesday, Sept. 3 at age 96.Â Â A native of Idaho, she and her late husband, Winfred,Â moved to Eltopia in 1956 where they operated Merrillâ€™s Market, and later built a market and cafĂ© at Merrillâ€™s Corner on Glade/Eltopia West Roads.Â
They also lived for many years in the Colville area, where they owned South Twin Lakes Resort.Â Elaine had a love of music and played the piano in many dance bands.Â She was a devout member of the LDS Church.Â
Sarah Culton, EdD, wife, mother, teacher, counselor, and author, passed away Sept. 2, 2013 in Colville. She was born Nov. 12, 1927 in Burwell, NE.
She is survived by her husband of 64 years, Verlen Ross Culton; her son, James V. Culton and his wife, Dayona, and children, Skyler and Tayler; daughter, Sue C. Kahle and her husband, Ronald, and children, Nicholas and Pearl; sister, Lula Schroder; and many nieces and nephews from both sides of her family.
Helen Rose (Hessler) Witham passed away peacefully on SepÂ¬tember 8, 2013 at Buena Vista Nursing Home in Colville, where she had lived for the past several years.
She was born Dec.16, 1918 in Jerome, Idaho to Arthur and Elizabeth (Shaw) Hessler. She lived in Jerome through her school years and attended Kinman Business College in SpoÂ¬kane. She met her husband, Irwin, while in Jerome and they married on March 20, 1941 in Jerome, Idaho. From this union three sons were born: James, Thomas and William Frederick.
Elaine Parkison passed away in Spokane on August 31, 2013 at the age of 92. She was born in Hatton on March 2, 1921, the daughter of Logan and Molly (Lackey) Rice.
Elaine attended school at Rogers Bar, where she completed the eighth grade. After finishing school, she spent most of the summers cooking meals for the wheat harvest crews.
David Scott Bell, 79, passed away in the arms of his wife of 35 years, Melanie, on August 29, 2013 at their home on the east bank of his beloved Columbia River in Evans. He was a husband, father, brother and grandfather lovingly called BopBop.
David was born July 27, 1934 in Rockford, Illinois.
On August 29, 2013, Dorothy I. â€śWalleyâ€ť passed away peacefully surrounded by family at Northern Colorado Medical Center, 24 days short of her 103rd birthday. She was born Sept 22, 1910 to Arthur and Bella Stollery in Chicago, IL.
