John Van Soest, age 57, passed away on Feb. 13, 2014 in Colville. He was born on May 8, 1956, the son of Everardus and Maria (Olthof) Van Soest in Gilze-Rijen, Netherlands.
John grew up and attended school in the Netherlands, and worked primarily in the HVAC Commercial field. John moved to the United States 15 years ago and married Karen Nicholas. He continued his work in the HVAC industry, working for ColÂ¬mac Coil in many departments at the manufacturing facility in Colville.
James "Jim" Arthur Tremblay passed away on Feb. 13, 2014 in Spokane at the age of 53. He was born on July 27, 1960 in North Bend, OR, the son of William Clovis and Betty Lou (Koontz) Tremblay.
Florence â€śFlossâ€ť Thayer passed away in Colville on February 12, 2014 at the age of 94, just three weeks shy of her 95th birthday. Floss was born on March 5, 1919 in Portland, OR. to Michael Zill and Agnus (Grell) Zill, who were Austrian immigrants and naturalized U. S. citizens.
Floss was raised in Portland, OR. where she attended Clinton Kelly High School of Commerce and graduated in 1937. She then attended Business College. Following Business College she worked at a stock and bond brokerage firm.
Carol Ann Mawdsley, a lon time resident of Hunters, passed away on Feb. 3, 2014 in Coeur dâ€™Alene, Idaho at the age of 66. Carol was born on Dec. 10, 1947 in Chewelah, the daughter of Marshall and Hilda (Carlson) Cornwall.
Beulah Jeanette Cochran, age 93, passed away on Feb. 9, 2014 in Spokane. She was born the daughter of Charles and Annie (Hall) Wampler on Sept.14, 1920 in Glamorgan, VA.
Beulah moved to Prosser in 1939 and married Aaron E. Cochran at Sunnyside in 1940. The couple moved to the Northport area in 1943 where they owned/operated a sawmill and farmed their 2,000 acres near Cedar Creek. In 1972, Aaron and Beulah moved to Rice, then to Colville in 1986, where she lived until moving to an assisted living home in Spokane last year.
Maxine Mae Pitts was born to Harry and Ivy Rodenbough in a small farmhouse in Cedonia on Oct. 29, 1923. She grew up with her three brothers, Maynard, Elton and Hugh and her two sisters, Epal and Lois. She attended the Cedonia Church and graduated from Columbia High School in 1941.
After graduation, Maxine and her sister, Lois, met best friends Gregg Pitts and Jim Peters of Rice. In March 1942, both couples were married in Seattle.
Aaron Gabriel Huff, a lifetime resident of Stevens County, passed away on Jan. 24, 2014 at the age of 32 in Chewelah. He was born Nov. 8, 1981 to Mike and Elaine Huff in Colville. He attended Colville schools and graduated in 2000. He also received his AA degree from SpoÂ¬kane Community College and was currently employed by Hewes Craft in Colville.
Aaron was born the 10th of 12 children. He was full of life and enjoyed being part of a large family. He had a great love for his family and enjoyed spending time with them. Aaron had a deep passion for music and it showed in the songs he wrote.
Christopher J. Clash, a resident of Spokane, passed away on Jan. 23, 2014 in Spokane at the age of 50. Chris was born on Sept. 30, 1963 in New Jersey, the son of C. Henry and Jean V. Clash.
Douglas Franz, a longtime resident of Colville, passed away on Jan. 26, 2014 in Spokane at the age of 67. Doug was born Jan. 22, 1947 in Colville, the son of Warren Harding and Ethel Irene (McCleary) Franz.
Doug was raised in Kettle Falls, where he attended school. In 1965, he graduated from Kettle Falls High School and then enÂ¬listed in the U.S. Air Force. Doug served for three years, four months and two days and was honorably discharged on May 29, 1969.
