Marilyn Bergevin

Marilyn Bergevin, of Gig Harbor passed peacefully Wednesday night at home after a long fight with Pulmonary Fibrosis. She was born to Kathryn and Otto Fogle in 1935 in Colville. Her father came from North Dakota and was a local businessman. Her mother was born in Nebraska and moved to Colville to teach. Marilyn spent the summers as a child at her parent’s remote cabin in British Columbia and developed a love for nature. She graduated from Colville High in 1953 and received her BA in Education in 1957 from Washington State University.

James Northrup

James R. Northrup passed away peacefully on Jan. 30, 2013 at the age of 86, surrounded by many family members. He suffered complications from a fall at home and died at Providence Sacred Heart Medical Center in Spokane. He was born on Jan. 19, 1927 in Colville, the second child of Rod and Mabel (Wetzel) Northrup.
He was raised on a ranch on Highland Loop Road between Kettle Falls and Colville and learned the value of hard work. He was proud of the fact that his great-grandfather homesteaded in Northrup Canyon near Steamboat Rock in Grand Coulee.

Jerry Starr

Jerry R. Starr, 71, suffered a heart attack and passed away on Jan. 29, 2013. Jerry will be greatly missed by his wife Margie, sister Kathryn Hammond, aunt Patricia Kingsbury and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Jerry’s passing was preceded by his mother, Mary Merle Starr/Johnson, brother, Cameron Johnson, and by the death of his step-father, Ret. Col. Charles Johnson.

Caroline Rummer

Caroline L. “Carol Lea” Rummer, a lifetime resident of Colville, passed away on Jan. 24, 2013 in Colville at the age of 81. Carol Lea was born on April 28, 1931 in Colville, the daughter of Harry and Alice (Nyholm) Peterson.
Carol Lea was raised and attended school in Colville. While attending a dance at Waitts Lake, a young man named Loyd Rummer introduced himself. This introduction began their courtship. Carol Lea would work at White’s Grocery after school as well as summers and following her high school graduation in 1949.

Arthur "Art" Avery

Arthur “Art” Kootenai Avey, a lifetime resident of North¬eastern Washington, passed away on Feb. 1, 2013 in Colville at the age of 94. Art was born on April 2, 1918 in Cranbrook, BC, the son of Arthur Francis and Clara (Carruth¬ers) Avey.
Following his father’s work opportunities as a lumber millwright, Art resided in several communities in Northeastern Washington with his family, including Orin, Spokane, Cusick and Colville.

Norman LaVigne

January 30, 2013

Norman S. LaVigne was born at the family home in Chewelah on Nov. 30, 1923. The son of Cyrille and Vera LaVigne, Norm graduated from Jenkins High School in 1942 and went on to earn his Electrical Engineering degree from University of Min¬nesota in 1945.
He married his high school sweetheart, Irene Gunning, on June 29, 1945.

Lawrence Visger

Lawrence Lester Visger, a three-year resident of Colville, passed away on Jan. 15, 2013 in Colville at the age of 83. Law¬rence was born on Nov. 13, 1929 in Minong, WI, the son of John Leroy and Margaret V. (Bickel) Nelson. He also shared a special bond with his step-father, Otto C. Nelson.

Ed Combs

Cecil Edward Combs, “Ed”, was born in Virginia on Sept.17, 1946 to Junior Calup Combs and Janet Florence Scarbrough.
Onion Creek lost an icon on Jan. 17, 2013.
Ed was a man of many talents and trades. One of his first jobs was at McClendon’s Hardware in Seattle. He also worked on oil rigs in Kimble, Nebraska, and as an electrical engineer in Mexico and at the Boeing plant in Seattle. Over the years, he also worked as a millwright in a large factory, and as a wood cutter, a carpenter, a mechanic, a metals recycler/scrapper and as a gold prospector.

Helen Brynjulson

Helen Jane Brynjulson passed away from a stroke on Jan. 6, 2013 at Hayden, Idaho at the age of 93.
Helen was born Dec. 14, 1919 to Richard and Gertrude Brown of Sidney, MT. Helen graduated from Sidney High School, Sidney, MT, in the class of 1939 and was employed at the Triangle Night Club.

Harriett Christensen

Harriett May Christensen, 76, has left to be with “Daddy.”
She passed away in Spokane on Dec. 8, 2012 after fighting back to health many times in the last few years.
As a young adult, she lived in Spokane until 1969 when the family moved to Moses Lake. Harriett, or Hattie to some, was full of spunk and energy. She was always busy crafting and sewing, cooking or volunteering.
