Marvin Best

March 11, 2014

Marvin Devine Best, 79, of Colville, peacefully passed away on Feb. 26, 2014 at Providence Mount Carmel Hospital, surrounded by loved ones.
He was born August 1, 1934 to Denzil Frank Best and Anna Eva (Koerner) Best.
Marvin was a life-long resident of Colville, with the exception of several years of service in the U.S. Army.

Jack Steele

John D. Steele, a lifelong resident of Fruitland, passed away on Feb.24, 2014 at the age of 82. He was born on March 28, 1931 to James and Mildred (Campbell) Steele in Hunters.
John attended school in Hunters, where he graduated from Columbia High School in 1949. After high school, he at­tended State College of Washington (known today as Washington State University) and graduated in 1953 with a Bachelor of Science Degree. He married his sweetheart Blanche on July 5, 1953 in Opportunity.

Kenneth Rochon

March 11, 2014

Kenneth Charles Rochon, a long-time resident of Colville, passed away on Feb. 27, 2014 at the age of 54. He was born in Everett to Charles and Mary (Scanlon) Rochon on July 14, 1959.
Ken started school at Saint Mary Magdalen Catholic School in Everett until the sixth grade, when his family moved to Granite Falls. He later graduated from Granite Falls High School.

Harvey Pankretz

Harvey Lee Pankretz returned to Heavenly Father on Feb. 19. He was born at Reedley, CA on Sept. 25 1927 to Frank and Anna (Perry) Pankretz. He attended schools at Los Gatos, CA graduating 12th grade from Los Gatos. He enlisted in the U.S. Navy for three years, receiving an honorable discharge when his tour of duty was completed.

John L. Moore

John L. Moore, a long-time resident of Kettle Falls, passed away on Feb. 14, 2014 at the age of 81. He was born on May 15, 1932 to Ed and Constance (Price) Moore in Danville.
John attended school at Deadman Creek, Boyds, and also in Kettle Falls. He moved around a lot in his earlier life. During that time, he worked for Kaiser Aluminum in Spokane, logged locally and also in Alaska.

Bill Nieshe Jr.

William “Bill” Nieshe Jr., a 40-year resident of the Colville area, passed away on Feb. 11, 2014 in Colville at the age of 84. He was born on Oct. 2, 1929 in Bloomfield, Nebraska, the tenth of 14 children to William and Anna (Muth) Nieshe.
Bill began grade school in Nebraska before moving with his family to Skagit County. There he continued his education and left school early to work and support the needs of his family. Bill’s career in the timber industry began in his early teen years and continued throughout his lifetime.

Walter Munk

Walter Gustav Munk, a longtime resident of Kettle Falls, passed away at his home on Feb. 14, 2014 at the age of 84. Walter was born on Nov. 18, 1929 in Plaza, the son of Rudolph and Dorothea (Bli¬esner) Munk.
Walter lived with his family in Plaza until 1934 when they moved to the Chewelah area. He graduated from Jen¬kins High School in 1948 and was drafted into the United States Army in 1951. Walter served during the Korean War until 1953 and was honorably discharged.

Tom Jones

Thomas Arthur Jones of Spokane was born on April 14, 1943, in Cheyenne, Wyoming. Tom passed at the age of 70 on Feb. 4, 2014.
Tom was preceded in death by his wife, Vicki Kaye Jones, and by his sister, Ruth.
Tom is survived by his son, Greg and wife Michele, and his three grandchildren, Jennifer and twins Justin and Tyler; daughter, SeDonni; son Thomas; son, Casey; cat, Qweeter; sister Tana; sister Laurel; brother, Kirby; brother, Gib; aunt Cleo; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Sarah Michel

Sarah Marie Michel passed away on Feb. 3, 2014 in Spokane. She was born the daughter of Donald and Barbara (Richards) Michel on Nov. 15, 1978 in Edmonds. Sarah was a devoted mother, daughter, sister and friend. She is remembered by her family as being very smart, passionate, creative, beautiful, stubborn, and a very determined and driven woman.
In Sarah’s spare time, she enjoyed working around her home, making it comfortable for family, making beautiful bead jewelry to market, and cooking creative food dishes. Sarah will be greatly missed by all who knew her.

John Van Soest

February 20, 2014

John Van Soest, age 57, passed away on Feb. 13, 2014 in Colville. He was born on May 8, 1956, the son of Everardus and Maria (Olthof) Van Soest in Gilze-Rijen, Netherlands.
John grew up and attended school in the Netherlands, and worked primarily in the HVAC Commercial field. John moved to the United States 15 years ago and married Karen Nicholas. He continued his work in the HVAC industry, working for Col¬mac Coil in many departments at the manufacturing facility in Colville.
