Floyd Best

July 19, 2012

Floyd Dean Best, Sr. (age 74) was born March 27, 1938 to Basil and June Best in Colville. He passed away on June 23, 2012 in Spokane.
Floyd started his military career at a young age by joining the Marines. He transferred to the Army, retiring after 21 years. He was very proud of his military service.
Floyd was married for 37 years to Christa.

Fred Carroll

July 19, 2012

Fred Lawrence Carroll passed away on July 15, 2012 at the age of 89. He was born the son of Lawrence and Jo Ella (Fate) Carroll on August 19, 1922 in Bossburg. He was born and raised in the same house that he passed away in.
Fred attended grade school in Bossburg and graduated from Marcus High School in 1940. On Sept. 15, 1942, Fred enlisted in the Air Force and trained during WWII to be an aircraft me¬chanic. Following an Honorable Discharge, Fred returned home to Bossburg to help his mother take care of his younger siblings after his father passed away.

Betty Jean Hays

Betty Jean (Anderson) Hays, dearly loved wife, mother and grandmother, passed peacefully on July 13, 2012 at the age of 82.
Betty was born on June 14, 1930 in Orofino Idaho to Arthur and Rose (Ellwood) Anderson. Betty was the oldest of five sib¬lings growing up on the Columbia River (before Grand Coulee Dam was completed) and then relocating to the family farm on Deadman Creek. Betty attended school at Deadman Creek and high school in Colville and Kettle Falls.

Walter Emmett Smith

Walter Emmett Smith passed away May 31, 2012 with his family by his side on the ranch in Cambridge, Idaho. He was born Feb. 26, 1934 in Roundup, MT.
He was the fourth of six children born to Frank and Bernice Johnson Smith. With only a grade school in the Flat Willow country of Montana, when Emmett’s older brother reached high school, the family decided to move to a small, irrigated produce and berry farm in the Spokane valley.

Bud Flanik

Warren Frank “Bud” Flanik, 83, a resident of Addy, passed away on July 2, 2012 at his Addy home. Bud was born on Nov. 2, 1928 in Colville, the son of George Frank and Winnifred (Mack) Flanik.
Bud's family homesteaded on Onion Creek before moving to Swiss Valley. He spent several years in Swiss Valley and then moved with his family to the ranch in Marble Valley in 1936. Bud attended grade school at the Summit Valley School and then finished his education in Chewelah, graduating in 1945 from Jenkins High School.

Dick Delp

Richard “Dick” Donald Delp, age 79, a longtime resident of the Kettle Falls area, passed away on July 6, 2012 at his home. Dick was born on Dec. 18, 1932 in Marcus, the seventh of 15 children to Elbert Glen and Julia Margaret (Anderson) Delp.

Lewis Boerste

Lewis Alden Boerste passed away at his home in Colville on June 20, 2012 at the age of 78. He was born on June 22, 1933, the son of Frank and Wilma (Buswell) Boerste in Ryderwood.
Lewis grew up in Cougar and attended high school in Woodland. Lewis joined the United States Air Force at age 17 in 1951, and served our country in the Korean War. He retired from the Air Force after 10 years of service.

Judith Lindemann

Judith Kay Lindemann, age 66, went to be with her Father in Heaven on July 2, 2012. She was born the daughter of Robert Charles and Mary Kay (Cook) Allen on Sept. 10, 1945 in Beloit, Wisconsin. Judith married Terry Lindemann on Sept. 16, 1967 at the Court Street Methodist Church in Rockford, Illinois.
In 1982, Terry and Judith moved to the Colville area where they raised their three children, Kristin, Matthew, and Lucas. Judith was very involved in the Colville Free Methodist Church. She was passionate about volunteering her time with the church and the Royal Family Kid’s Camp.

Gladys Walston

Gladys P. Walston, age 93, passed away on June 30, 2012 in Colville. She was born the daughter of Wallace and Grace (Hut¬ton) Elder on Feb. 17, 1919 in Lava Hot Springs, Idaho and went to high school in Tacoma. WA
Gladys married Frank Walston on July 2, 1950 in Colville. They had one daughter, Carol Leithead.
She preceded Gladys in death in 2011.
In her spare time, Gladys enjoyed playing music, danc¬ing, quilting, volunteer work, and most of all, spending time with her family. She was always willing to lend a hand to anyone in need.

Garrison Russell

Garrison Roy Russell passed away with his wife by his side on June 17, 2012 in Spokane at the age of 58.
Garrison was born on July 9, 1953 in Denver, CO, the son of Thomas Ferris and Nola (Wiedmann) Russell.
He was raised in Van Nuys, CA where he attended school. On his sixteenth birthday, Garrison received his pilot’s license, driver’s license and motorcycle endorsement. He continued fly¬ing while in high school and graduated from Van Nuys High School in 1971.
