Maxine Matlock, a longtime resident of Colville, passed away on Dec. 3, 2011 in Spokane at the age of 89. She was born on March 30, 1922 in Ryse, Missouri, the daughter of Mathis and Myrtle (Plank) Thomason.
Ida Hazel Green, 87, passed away on Nov. 25, 2011 in Colville.
She is survived by her children, Joan McCrea and Wesley (Bub) Green; son-in-law, Virgil Baumgarden; sisters, Ethel Howe of Spokane; Iona Hill, Hunters, and Jean Holland of Colville.
She is also survived by numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
Alan Lee Miller, age 56, passed away on Nov. 24, 2011 at his motherâs home in Chewelah after a short battle with cancer. Alan was born on Dec. 1, 1954, the son of Raymond and DoroÂ¬thy (Neufeld) Miller in Dallas, Oregon.
Upon completion of high school, he joined Local 2396, the âPile-drivers,â and worked in bridge building and construction for over 30 years. After retirement, he purchased property north of Colville, a place he referred to as his âparadiseâ.
Our loving Jeffy Cook was taken from us too soon at the age of 23. Born in Homer, Alaska on July 31, 1988, he moved to Kettle Falls with his family at age five and went to school in Kettle Falls and Colville until the age of 16.
He then moved to the westside of Washington, where he graduated from Darrington High School in 2006. At the age of 19, he got a job an Boeing where he remained until his untimely passing.
John Melville a resident of Deer Park, and formerly of Valley, passed away on Nov. 19, 2011. He was 83.
He is the dear husband of Virginia Malek and the loving father of Cheryl of Chattaroy. His brothers are Robert Melville of Spokane and Gerald Melville of Valley.
John enjoyed numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Born in 1928 at Valley, John graduated from Valley High School (Class of 1944), and was a truck driver for many years with the State of Washington Highway Department and then was a slag hauler at ALCOA in Addy. He retired in 2001.
Olga Lydia Carter passed away on Nov. 20, 2011 at the age of 94. She was born on April 6, 1917 in Gifford, Idaho, the daughter of Henry and Meta (Stelljes) Dehning.
Olga attended school in Lewiston, Idaho, then moved to Rubens, Idaho where she met Eldon Carter. The two were married in 1936. Olga and Eldon moved to Colville in 1940, and she and her husband started a garage in the present Empire Auto Parts location in 1943. In 1946, Mr. and Mrs. Carter began construction of the building to house Eldon Carter Motors, a Rambler and Toyota dealership now known as Carter Toyota.
A longtime resident of Kettle Falls, Norman passed away peacefully at Sacred Heart Hospital in Spokane Nov. 7, 2011 after a brief illness.
Jacqueline Dee Stahley, 84, passed away on November 14, 2011. She was born on August 27, 1927, the daughter of Lewis and Mabel (Bussler) Geer in Old Kettle Falls where she also attended school. The family moved to Seattle during the war where she met and married Ralph Harman in 1945 while he was serving in the U.S. Coast Guard. After Ralph was discharged from the service they spent some time in the Colville area, and then moved to Phoenix, AZ. Jackie went to work for Montgomery Ward and they stayed in Arizona until her retirement.
Larry (Laurence) Edward Miller was born on July 17, 1927 and passed away on Nov. 14, 2011. Larry was born in Newport to Thomas Jefferson and Winnifred Ruth Miller. He had four brothers and three sisters: Ethel (Fred) White, Alfred (Miriam) Miller, George (Lillian) Miller, Helen (Vern) Lamb, Everet Miller, Martin (Beverly) Miller, and Florence (Stan) Childs.
Louise Ruth Jones, a long time resident of Colville, passed away on Nov.12, 2011. She was born in Rodeo, CA. on March 23, 1924. She lived in San Francisco for over 20 years raising her children. She met and married Buzz Jones and they moved to Reno, NV. And lived there for over 10 years.
In 1977 she and Buzz moved to Colville and built their home in the Cedar Creek area. Buzz and Louise were married for over 45 years. She was very close to the Lord and was a member of the Northport Baptist Church.
