HALDON L. â€śSLIMâ€ť HOLFORD, 85, Morton, WA, died Tuesday, April 3, at Morton General Hospital, Morton, WA. A Graveside Service will be held 2 p.m. Friday, April 13, at Meyers Falls Cemetery, Kettle Falls, WA. Services are under the direction of Brown Mortuary, Morton.
William Walter Artman passed away in Colville on March 29, 2012. Bill, born Sept. 4, 1943 in Colville, was the oldest son of Merlin Walter and Rose Marie (Laird) Artman.
Bill spent his growing-up years in Colville, graduating from Colville High School in 1961. Some time later, he graduated with a business degree from Eastern Washington University. Bill served in the Air National Guard for six months active and six years in the reserves, fulfilling his military commitment.
Marilyn A. Lakey, 80, was born on Oct. 7, 1931 in Fruitland and passed away on March 24, 2012 in Spokane.
Marilyn graduated from Hunters (Columbia) High School. She married Casey Lakey on Feb. 18, 1950 in Davenport. They lived and farmed in the Colville Valley for 18 years.
Emily Gladys Knapp passed away on the evening of Good Friday, April 6, 2012 in Olympia at age 96. She was a longtime (67 years) resident of Colville and loved her town (â€śDo you know what is the most wonderful town in the world?â€ť).
Toni Gayle Vanderhoof left us to be with Jesus on March 19, 2012. She had put her life in Godâ€™s hands and let Him carry her in her final days of her battle with COPD. Toni was surÂ¬rounded by family and close friends as she left earth on her journey to heaven.
Toni was born on Dec. 19, 1950 in South Bend, Indiana to Stanley and Dorothy (Martin) Scearce. Her mother moved to Washington in 1969, bringing Toni with her. Toni moved to Utah in the 80â€™s.
Laura Jean Wappl, a resident of Colville, passed away on March 28, 2012 in Colville at the age of 67. Laura Jean was born on Nov. 20, 1944 in West Seattle, the daughter of Louis and Laura Louise (Knowles) Wappl.
Laura Jean (Puddin) began her education in Arbor Heights and later attended the â€śPacificâ€ť school for her Junior and Senior High School education. While in school, she participated in the Special Olympics as a swimmer and bowler. Through Special Olympics, Laura Jean was given the opportunity to travel to many events, including a trip to Louisiana.
Will M. Christian, a longtime resident of Colville, passed away on March 26, 2012 in Colville after a long illness with Alzheimerâ€™s. He was born on Feb. 8, 1966 in Colville, the son of Glenn and Dianne (Terry) Christian.
When he was two-weeks-old, the family moved to the Seattle area where he was raised and attended school in Renton until the age of 16. While in school, Will enjoyed playing basketball, baseball and soccer in the city leagues.
James Houston Porritt, age 79, passed away on March 17, 2012. He was born on May 25, 1932 in Salt Lake City, UT, the son of James Nathaniel and Dorothy Grace (Wagner) Porritt.
He was a very loving man, and enjoyed spending time outdoors. After serving in the U.S. Navy, James worked as a Marine Engineer in Alaska and as a Commercial Fisherman in Washington before going to work for the National Park Service in Washington State.
John Rowlee Marchinek, 60, passed away at his home in Kettle Falls on March 19, 2012.
The funeral was held the following Saturday at Mountain View Park Cemetery in Colville, where he was laid to rest.
John Marchinek was born June 14,1951 to John â€śPeteâ€ť and Margaret (nee Rowlee) Marchinek in Colville. His father was a Track Inspector and his mother was a Telegrapher for the Great Northern Railroad. Johnâ€™s birth was followed by a sister, Jeanne, but both lost their mother, Margaret, shortly after.
