Elinor Francis Mewes (nee Abel), 88, joined her husband Leroy in eternal rest on Sept. 26, 2011. She was born in Conrad, Montana on Sept. 17, 1923 and ended her eventful life in Tempe, Arizona, surrounded by her loving family.
She is survived by three generations: her daughter, Sharen St. John and her son-in-law, Robert St. John, of Tampa, Florida; her son, Dale Mewes, of Payson, Arizona; and her daughter, Juanita Reichenbach, of Tempe. She has five grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
Marine Staff Sergeant Nicholas Adam Sprovtsoff, 28, died Wednesday, Sept. 28, 2011, during combat operations in Helmand Provence, Afghanistan. He is survived by wife Tasha; daughter, Lanie, and a child due in November, of Oceanside, CA; his parents, Sandra (Mark) Dutton of Michigan and Jack Sprovtsoff of Grand Blanc, MI; and a sister, Jessica of Ann Arbor, MI. Born April 4, 1983, in Flint, MI, he was a 2001 graduate of Davison High School and a 10-year veteran of the United States Marine Corps. On Nov. 19, 2007, he married Tasha Fogle in Hawaii.
Ronald Blair Oâ€™Brien was born on December 26, 1943 in Vancouver, WA. At age 67 on September 18, 2011, Ron passed away while fishing at one of his favorite lakes.
Virgil Austin Taylor Jr. passed away Sept. 9 at the age of 79. He was born in Pueblo, CO on Feb. 20, 1932 and had been a 30-year resident of Stevens County. Funeral service was held Sept. 15 at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in Colville. He was laid to rest at Rice. A loving husband and father, he was preceded in death by his son, Jon E. Taylor. He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Lura E. Taylor, and five children: Debra S. Dickinson, Tyra L. Taylor, Sandra K. Sattler, Erin L. Belmont and Matthew T. Taylor. He was the grandfather of 16 and great-grandfather of 10.
Larry Eugene Lawrence, loving father, husband, brother and friend was known by his love of fishing and hunting. He was a great man and a hard worker. He is loved and will be missed by his wife, Barbara; children, Sarah, Jeramie, Cody and Terena; brothers, Dale, Jerry, and John (Tigger); niece, Bobi Urrutia and his friends, some who included Garry King and Yogi; and his numerous cousins like Kris Palm. You will be missed by us all. Remember when?
Pamela â€śPamâ€ť Sue Maine of Colville, passed away on Sept. 16, 2011 in Spokane at the age of 63. Pam was born on July 14, 1948 in Seattle, the daughter of Alonzo Percival and Catherine Scott.
Lois Gordon Christensen, age 90, returned peacefully to her heavenly â€ś homeâ€ť on Sunday morning, Oct. 2, 2011. For the past two years, Lois has been lovingly cared for by the kind staff at the Pinewood Terrace Nursing home in Colville. She delighted in visits from her family, looking forward to and often joining in as they sang her favorite songs and hymns. She would often ask, â€śWhere is Bob?â€ť not remembering that her husband of 61 years had passed away on Sunday, Jan. 2 this same year.
Lois was born to Daniel and Bessie Gordon on May 1, 1921. She was the third of five children.
Doris Elaine True passed away Sept. 28, 2011. She was born March 23, 1933 to Lawrence and Emma Fitzthum in Snohomish.
She married the love of her life, Richard True, and started a family-owned shoe store. In 1978 they moved to Republic and purchased Tiffanyâ€™s Resort on Curlew Lake. In 1982 they retired and moved to Colville where she enjoyed gardening and planting.
She was preceded in death by her husband Richard.
Robert McClain of Turlock, CA passed away Sept. 6, 2011. He was born in Colville on Oct. 17, 1952 to Richard and Ruthann McClain. He attended Colville schools for 12 years, graduating in 1970. Robert was also a graduate of Washington State University with a Bachelors in Business Accounting.
Robert â€śBobâ€ť Brooks was born August 18, 1930 at Boyds. He died August 25, 2011 at Battle Ground. He was 81. He was the youngest of eight children. Bob graduated from Colville High School in 1949. From 1952-1953, Bob served as a Corporal in the U.S. Army. He was an ambulance driver in the Korean War. While serving, he was awarded many medals. In 1953, he received honorable discharge to the reserves. In June, 1954, Bob married the love of his life, Louise Bedingfield. They were happily married for 57 years and raised five children.
