Carolyn V. Eseke passed away on Oct. 3, 2011 after a long illness. She was preceded in death by her son, James. She is survived by her daughter, Lorraine Williams; grandchildren Michael Williams, Kimarra Howard (Joe), Richard Eseke, Eric Eseke, and four great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by sisters Kathren and Irene; a brother, Richard, and many nieces and nephews. She has gone to a better place. No funeral service will be held per her request.
Quentin J. Porter, 85 of Colville, died Monday afternoon, Oct. 10, 2011 with his family at his side and in the comfort of Francis House Syracuse, where he had been since Sept. 29, 2011. Quentin finally lost his ten-year battle with cancer.
He was born on March 20, 1926 in Berlin, Wis,. The son of Harold A. and Helen Lubenetski Porter.
He married Jeanne Bodenback in 1949 in Wisconsin. Quentin and Jeanne were happily married for 40 years. Jeanne, âMama Jeanneâ, passed away in 1989 after her own battle with cancer.
Daisy Mae Boughey, 94, a resident of Rice for the past 19 years, and a former resident of Leavenworth, died Oct. 10, 2011 at Colville. Daisy Mae was born on June 6, 1917 to Enes and Janie (Waum) Dale at Ryegate, Montana, where she was raised and educated. Daisy married Leland E. Boughey on Sept. 2, 1952 in Seattle. They moved to Leavenworth where they owned and operated Icicle Farm Dairy and where Daisy also worked as a waitress. After retiring in 1991, Daisy moved to Rice, where she has lived ever since.
Clarence A Rieper was born Dec.20, 1922 and passed away on Oct. 7, 2011 from a brief and sudden illness. He was the youngest child of Henry and Estelle Davis Rieper.
He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Edmund and Wayne, and a sister, Florence Ruth Harper. Born and raised on a farm near Northport, he attended the one- room Cedar Creek School until eighth grade. He graduated from Northport High as Salutatorian in 1940. He was a retired veteran, serving first in the Air Force and then the Air National Guard.
Marjorie Rose Jolley, a 33-year resident of Colville, passed away on Oct. 12, 2011 in Colville at the age of 76. Marjorie was born on Jan. 31, 1935 at Inchelium, the daughter of Ervin Charles and Violet Marie (Moomaw) Peone.
Henry Riley Stephenson, a 62-year resident of Colville, passed away on Oct. 14, 2011 in Colville at the age of 90. Riley was born on June 18, 1921 in Burwell, Nebraska, the son of Clarence Daniel and Rebecca Amanda (Tockey) Stephenson.
He was raised in Nebraska and graduated in 1941 from the town of Boelus. Riley entered the U.S. Army on Dec. 19, 1944 and served overseas in the Pacific Theater. He was honorably discharged on Nov. 12, 1946 and returned to Nebraska. On Oct. 27, 1946 he married Roma Evelyn Reher, âhis million dollar baby that he met at the 5 & dime store.â
Elinor Francis Mewes (nee Abel), 88, joined her husband Leroy in eternal rest on Sept. 26, 2011. She was born in Conrad, Montana on Sept. 17, 1923 and ended her eventful life in Tempe, Arizona, surrounded by her loving family.
She is survived by three generations: her daughter, Sharen St. John and her son-in-law, Robert St. John, of Tampa, Florida; her son, Dale Mewes, of Payson, Arizona; and her daughter, Juanita Reichenbach, of Tempe. She has five grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
Marine Staff Sergeant Nicholas Adam Sprovtsoff, 28, died Wednesday, Sept. 28, 2011, during combat operations in Helmand Provence, Afghanistan. He is survived by wife Tasha; daughter, Lanie, and a child due in November, of Oceanside, CA; his parents, Sandra (Mark) Dutton of Michigan and Jack Sprovtsoff of Grand Blanc, MI; and a sister, Jessica of Ann Arbor, MI. Born April 4, 1983, in Flint, MI, he was a 2001 graduate of Davison High School and a 10-year veteran of the United States Marine Corps. On Nov. 19, 2007, he married Tasha Fogle in Hawaii.
Ronald Blair OâBrien was born on December 26, 1943 in Vancouver, WA. At age 67 on September 18, 2011, Ron passed away while fishing at one of his favorite lakes.
Virgil Austin Taylor Jr. passed away Sept. 9 at the age of 79. He was born in Pueblo, CO on Feb. 20, 1932 and had been a 30-year resident of Stevens County. Funeral service was held Sept. 15 at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in Colville. He was laid to rest at Rice. A loving husband and father, he was preceded in death by his son, Jon E. Taylor. He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Lura E. Taylor, and five children: Debra S. Dickinson, Tyra L. Taylor, Sandra K. Sattler, Erin L. Belmont and Matthew T. Taylor. He was the grandfather of 16 and great-grandfather of 10.
