Local attorney and civil activist Helen Dee Hokom passed away unexpectedly in Colville on April 7. Dee was born in Nampa, Idaho on April 3, 1953 to W.W "Bud" Hokom and Ruth Lenore Welsh. She grew up on a small farm in nearby Kuna, Idaho and graduated from Kuna High School in 1971. She completed her undergraduate education at Idaho State UniverÂ¬sity in 1975 with a degree in Political Science. From there, she worked as a subÂ¬stitute teacher and backpacked around Europe until enrolling in law school at the University of Idaho in 1977. She earned her Juris Doctor degree in 1980.
Our mother, Barbra Orren, received her angel wings on Valentineâs Day. She was born on April 3, 1933 in Hot Springs, Montana.
She is survived by her daughter, Kathy Clark, Colville; son, Cliff Schlienger, Clayton; daughter, Victoria Greer, Chewelah, and an adopted daughter, Julie Orren, Medical Lake. She also had stepchildren: Debbie Lynch, Geanie Orren, Vanessa Orren, and Tania Frederickson.
Barbra was preceded in death by her grandson, Matt Clark, in October, and by her son, Ken Schlienger, in September; husband, James Orren, and another son, Bill Schlienger.
Nettie Irene Faris passed away February 24, 2014 when the angels escorted her to the throne of her heavenly Father and into the presence of Jesus Christ, her Lord and Savior.
She was 97-years, four months and seven days old.
Nettie was born October 17, 1916 to Roque Q. and Nellie May Hill Uribe at Turk, WA. Doctor McRae stepped out of the room to get a cup of coffee, and she arrived without his help.
Donald Britton was born Nov. 7, 1930 and passed away Jan. 28, 2014.
Donâs family moved to Snohomish in 1938. He attended Snohomish schools and was senior class and FFA president.
He served his country in the Army during the Korean War. When he returned, Don and his twin brother, Dan, started Britton Brothers Auction in 1955. The auction was a fixture in Snohomish for 35-years.
Don married Roberta Green on July 29, 1955.
Corinne M. Titus passed away April 4, 2014 in Spokane at the age of 84. Corrine was born in Santa Cruz, CA. on Nov. 28, 1929, the daughter of Andrew Norman and Amy McDonald.
Corinne married the love of her life, Clifford Earl Titus on June 3, 1947. Cliff and Corrine enjoyed 66-years of marriage. Cliff and Corrine lived in many places including California, Oregon and Washington.
Mary Louise Wicks, a thirteen-year resident of Colville, passed away peacefully on March 25, 2014. Mary was born on July 25, 1938 to John and Valerie (Miskiness) Warmalts of Grand Rapids, Michigan.
Mary attended Lynnwood High School in Lynnwood, CA. While in high school she met Dale Wicks in 1952. The two of them dated until they wed on August 1, 1954 in Lynnwood. They started their family in 1955 when Allen Dale Wicks was born. In 1958 their son, Douglas Wicks, was born and in 1963 their son, Donald Wicks, was born.
Iver passed away the evening of March 25, 2014 in Los Angeles, CA. Iver was born in Corfu (Frenchman Hill) to Edward and Clara Burke.
In the 1920âs the family moved to the Cedonia area and later settled on a ranch on the Spokane Indian Reservation in Fruitland. Iver and his brother, William (Bill), helped their parents on the farm. Both boys attended and graduated from Hunters High School.
Jerry Westman Matteson, 78, went home to the Lord March 29, 2014. He was born June 28, 1935 in Walhalla, North DaÂkota to Ivan G. and Alice Matteson.
Marc Jack Bircher, of Kettle Falls, passed away on April 2, 2014. He was born on April 26, 1970 in Kellogg Idaho. He was raised in Colville and Kettle Falls, WA. He graduated from Kettle Falls High School in 1988. Marc received his Associates Degree in Water Resources Management from Spokane Community College. Marc then went to work for High Speed.com installing cellular towers in Oregon, Idaho, California, and Washington. Following this he became employed with Conoco Phillips on the North Slopes Alaska. He was later employed driving trucks for various companies in North Dakota.
Joyce Ledgerwood Ingle, wife of endodontist, Dr. John I. Ingle, died March 8, 2014. She was born June 4, 1918 in Colville, where John and Joyce were âchildhood sweethearts.â They were married July 11, 1940, nearly 74 years ago.
