Joyce Ledgerwood Ingle, wife of endodontist, Dr. John I. Ingle, died March 8, 2014. She was born June 4, 1918 in Colville, where John and Joyce were âchildhood sweethearts.â They were married July 11, 1940, nearly 74 years ago.
May Adeline Bonds passed away March 9, 2014 in Colville at the age of 85. She was born on January 5, 1929 to Harold and Claire Davis in Mason City, Iowa.
May worked as a nurse at Pinewood in Colville for over a decade. She worked in the infectious skin disease control area. May also took on the challenge to create the Certified Nurseâs Aide Training Program. After the State of Washington approved the program, she taught the class and took great pride in each studentâs success. The program she created is still being used to this day.
Charles âBertâ Albert Lotze passed away at his home, surrounded by family, on March 11, 2014. He was born in Colville on February 24, 1935, to George and Cora (Wright) Lotze.
Bert grew up in the Onion Creek area and attended school there until high school where he attended Northport High School. At the age of fifteen, Bert helped Washington Water Power skid logs to be used for power poles to run electricity to Onion Creek.
Irene Velma Mason of Kettle Falls passed away on March 8, 2014 at Sacred Heart Hospital in Spokane at the age of 72. Irene was the daughter of Arthur and Alice (Layland) Rau of Kansas City, Missouri.
She especially enjoyed music, gardening, crocheting, home crafts, and traveling.
Irene loved reading books, especially westerns. Â Her favorite authors were Louis Lâamour and Zane Grey. Â
Betty F. Shaw, a 28-year resident of Colville, passed away peacefully in her home on March 12, 2014 in Colville at the age of 91. She was born on August 28, 1922 on a farm near Atwood, IL to Vern Edward and Elsie Pearl (Horton) Reeder. Of English descent, Bettyâs ancestors immigrated to Piscataway, Middlesex County, New Jersey in 1686.
When she was 13, Betty lost her mother to tetanus. Following high school, she majored in English at Eastern Illinois University, where she met her husband James Shaw.
Merritt D. Rice (78) of Metaline Falls, passed away on March 9, 2014 in Spokane due to complications from respiratory failure. He was born Feb. 22, 1936 at Pomeroy to George Henry Rice and Minnie Elizabeth Rice (Clark).
At the age of seven, the family moved to Lapwai, Idaho where the family farmed and cattle ranched. Merritt graduated from Lapwai High School in 1955.
Warren L. Slentz passed away on Feb. 21, 2014. He was born Dec. 2, 1929 in Colville.
He was a resident of Prestiage Care and Rehabilitation in Clarkston, where he passed away due to medical complications.
He was the son of Fred James Slentz and Mable Alice (Fjarli) Slentz.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Lewis Slentz; his sister, Winifred Wood, and by his wife, Delvina M. Slentz.
Warren is survived by his daughters, Shannon L. Picard, Winchester, Idaho; Colleen M. Loo, Juliaetta, Idaho.
Paul Edwin Humes quietly joined his daughter in heaven early Sunday morning, March 9, 2014.Â
Memorial service was held at First United Methodist Church, in Baton Rouge, LA on March 14, with Rev. Brad Franklin officiating.Â
Born Nov. 19, 1942 in Colville, Paul attended Kettle Falls High School and later earned degrees from Washington State University and Oregon State University.Â He joined the faculty of Louisiana State University in 1968 and retired in 2009 as Director of the School of Animal Sciences.
Joseph Michael âMikeâ Huff passed away at his home surrounded by his family on March 6, 2014. He was born on Oct. 1, 1938 in Seattle, the son of Leon and Doris (Jacoby) Huff.
Mike grew up in Bothell, where he attended school at St. Edwardâs Seminary, then St. Josephâs Seminary in California. He enlisted in the United States Air Force in 1959, proudly serving his county for four years. Although only serving in the Air Force for four years, Mike achieved the rank of Staff Sergeant before his honorable discharge.
Ronald D. Spear, age 90, an 18-year resident of the Kettle Falls area, passed away on Feb. 28, 2014 at his home. Ron was born on Feb. 11, 1924. He was the oldest of three sons born to Walter and Myrtle Spear. He was born in Lone Pine, California and at an early age, moved to Glendale, California, where he graduated from Glendale Academy in 1942.
