Reliving Friday Night Lights

It has been decades since Colville High alumni (and a few friends) strapped on the helmets and laced on the pads for a little high school football dĂ©jĂ  vu. But with the encouragement of CHS grad Cole Weatherman and support from the Colville School District administration, a Colville vs. Chewelah alumni football game was resurrected—and played—last Friday night at CHS. No, it almost didn’t happen. There was a point last week when Weatherman thought the game was going to have to be cancelled.

Ebel completes softball career

Colville High School graduate and former Indians’ softball standout Jennica Ebel recently completed her softball career at Spokane Falls Community College.
Ebel, the daughter of Jim and Nancy Ebel of Colville, helped lead SFCC to a fifth place finish in the 16-team NWAACC Tournament and fourth during the regular season.
According to Jim Ebel, an assistant coach for the CHS softball team, the Sasquatch had to overcome a “variety of obstacles this season,” starting with the unexpected transfer of their top pitcher.
It only got worse.

Kettle Falls Pool almost ready for swimmers

The Kettle Falls Municipal Swimming Pool will open for the season on June 15 at 1 p.m. Operating hours will be Monday through Friday from 1 p.m. to 5:45 p.m.; Saturday from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m., and closed on Sunday. Swim lesson sign-up will be Monday, June 13 from 7:30 a.m. to noon; Tuesday, June 14 from 8 a.m. to noon, and from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the pool. Lap swims are scheduled on Monday, Wednesday and Thursday from 7:30 a.m. to 8:30 a.m. Water aerobics’ classes will be conducted on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday from 5:45 p.m. to 6:30 p.m.

Kettle Falls goes 1-2 at State 2B tourney

Kettle Falls High, making its first State softball tournament appearance since 2007, fin¬ished with a 1-2 record at last Friday and Saturday’s Class 2B Tournament at Gateway Sports Complex in Yakima.
The Lady Bulldogs (20-4) outscored LaConner 13-10 in their Friday morning opener before falling 10-0 (five innings) to Mossyrock on Friday eveÂŹning.
In a loser-out game Saturday morning, Kettle Falls dropped a tough 7-6 decision to Toutle Lake.

Colville qualifies two doubles teams to State

For the first time in the history of the program, Colville will send two doubles teams to a state tournament.
The Indians, who won the Northeast A League and District 7 1A championship earlier this spring, got both of their doubles teams to Friday and Saturday’s State 1A Tournament in Yakima.
Erin Little and Liselotte Doggen, Colville’s top singles players during the regular season before pairing up to play doubles in the post-season, advance out of the 1A regional as the no. 2 seeded team.

Colville girls have a shot

Led by the Luu sisters—Tasha and Malia—Colville qualified a strong contingent of athletes to Friday and Saturday’s WIAA/ Dairy Farmers of Washington/Les Schwab Tires State 1A Track & Field Championships at Eastern Washington University’s Roos Field.
Head coach Ty Brown and his staff will take seven girls to a meet they have the opportunity to score significantly in.
