This yearâs
rodeo is May 19
This yearâs Arden Old-Timerâs Rodeo will return to its usual May date. The 2012 edition of a popular rite of spring will be held Saturday, May 19 at the Arden Old-Timerâs Rodeo Arena. The show will start at 2 p.m.
Admission is by donation.
This yearâs rodeo will include a raffle and the opportunity to win half a beef (first prize), a cord of firewood (second prize) and handmade saddle racks (third place).
Tickets for the drawing the day of the rodeo are $1 apiece.
But Indians are
still tied for 2nd
It wasnât a pretty week for the Colville High School baseball team.
The Indians (4-4, 5-5), despite playing at home the entire week, managed only one win in four games. Colville started the week back on April 10 with a 14-4 loss to Northeast A League-leading Lakeside (7-2) and followed that up one day later with an 8-0 loss to Freeman (2-4).
On Saturday, the Indians managed a split with Newport, losing the opener 7-3 and coming back for a 3-1 win in the second game.
Colville High had no trouble improving its spring fast-pitch softball record to 6-0, 8-2 last week with Northeast A League wins over Freeman, Riverside and Chewelah.
The Indians, winners of five straight and seven of their last nine, started the week back on April 10 with an easy 16-0 drubbing of visiting Freeman at Dean Vaagen Park.
On Wednesday, Colville swept host Riverside 11-0, 12-0. On Saturday, back home at Dean Vaagen Park, CHS rolled to easy 15-1, 11-0 wins over Chewelah.

The Colville High School Equestrian Club has the opportunity to compete in a variety of classes during their meets.
The team recently competed in their second meet at Wenatchee. Hannah Gormon placed third in Dressage and has the opportunity to advance to State at Lynden in May.
McKenna Iverson placed first; Mikala Harris was second and Brianna Short was fourth in Poles at the last meet.

Northport High got more solid pitching and timely hitting in a 10-0, 13-3 sweep of Columbia/Inchelium back on April 10.
Josh Konkler and Daulton Burke combined on a one-hitter in the opening game.
The Mustangs took full advantage of walks and hit batters in both games.
âWe scattered around 11 hits and used a lot of bases on balls and hit by pitch to have runners on base all day,â NHS head coach Don Baribault said. âWe chipped away, but never had that huge inning.
Kettle loses tough outing
at Colfax
Kettle Falls High (3-5, 3-6) got a key outing from junior right-hander Tyler Vining when they needed it last Saturday and the Bulldogs were able to salvage a doubleheader split with league-leading Lind-Ritzville/Sprague at home.
After Kettle Falls dropped a 12-1 decision in the opener to the Broncos, the Bulldogs were able to ride Viningâs second sterling outing of the week to a 5-1 win. It was the first win of last weekâs four- game set against LRS and perennial 2B power Colfax.

The unbeaten Colville High School girlâs tennis team faced a rigorous test on Tuesday when Chewelahâs upstart tennis team, an upset winner of Lakeside last week in Northeast A League tennis play, visited the defending NEA champion Indians.
Chewelah dropped a narrow 3-2 decision earlier this season to Colville.
âThat might prove to be a bit more interesting than I had expected,â CHS head coach Phil Johnson said after Chewelah downed always tough Lakeside. âThere wonât be any room for error against them.â

Players sought for
second year league
Bambino Baseball Buddy Ball will embark on its second season in Colville next month.
The league for special needs youngsters got its impetus last spring with seven players. This spring, coordinators Heather and Brandon Judd hope to sign up 15 youngsters for this unique and rewarding program.
The Colville Kiwanis Club-sponsored Little League supports the program and has reserved field space for Bambino Buddy Ball, which is a division of Babe Ruth Baseball.
Chewelahâs baseball team finally got to spend some time on the diamond this past week, playing five games since last Monday. So it goes when the early spring has been uncommonly wet and inclement.
Jenkins High School head coach Luke Jeanneret isnât too worried about all the games in a short, quick stretch. Jeanneret figures his pitching is deep enough and able to take the wear and tear so many games can put on a staff.

NEA League foes
Colville Highâs rapidly improving soccer team will face a pair of Northeast A League opponents this week in games that will go a long way toward determining the league champion and post-season pecking order.
Sure, itâs still early in the season, but in a minimalist league like the NEA, the Indians and head coach Dave Rarrick will get a pretty good idea by the weekend what the pecking order might be.
