Othello wins 2A, DP comes up short

Colville Highâs Chandler Knight (182) finished third at Friday and Saturdayâs XXV Mat Classic at the Tacoma Dome to help lead the Indians to a ninth place finish (52.5 points).
Teammate Trenton Welton finished fifth at 138 pounds and Colvilleâs 152-pound standout, Tanner Smith, capped a stellar high school career with a sixth place finish.
The Indiansâ Grady Nelson (132), Ian Cox (138) and Ryley Smith (152) did not place.
Cheney escapes
The Colville High girlâs basketball season came to an abrupt and disappointing end back on Feb. 12 when visiting Cheney escaped with a 35-33 win in District 7 2A loser-out action.
CHS junior Sadie Learn led the Indians with 11 points.
This one was close throughout. A 13-9 fourth quarter run for the Blackhawks was just enough. CHS (10-11) had its chances down the stretch, but some late misfires from the field and the free throw line (six of 15) didnât help.
NEA champions
finish 19-6
The Chewelah Cougars boysâ basketball season came to an end Saturday with a 73-47 loss to Cashmere High School in the third place/loser-out game of the 1A Bi-District tournament in Omak.
The Cougars were in the third place game by virtue of pulling out an incredible 53-50, come-from-behind win over Northeast A League rival Lakeside on Friday night.
The Cougars finished with a 19-6 overall record and won the NEA title with an unblemished 12-0 record.

Colville High turned in some successes at last Friday and Saturdayâs Class 2A Region IV wrestling tournament at Ellensburg High School. But there were also some disappointments.
District 7 champion Colville High qualified six wrestlers to Friday and Saturdayâs Mat Classic XXV at the Tacoma Dome. The Indians, who also shared a GNL dual meet championship this winter, finished fourth at the regional with 150.5 points.
Cougars lose a
pair during week
The Chewelah Cougars boysâ basketball team bounced back from a pair of losses last week to advance to this weekâs semifinals in the NEA/CTL Bi-District Tournament against Lakeside.
Chewelah will be well represented
Kettle Falls High senior Tyler Vining (220) and sophomore Austin Anderson (170) qualified at last weekendâs District 6-7 regional wrestling meet (Chelan High School) for the 25th annual Mat Classic all divisionsâ state championships Friday and Saturday at the Tacoma Dome.
Vining, who was thought to be finished for the season after re-injuring his right knee in the district tournament, competed at Chelan on essentially one leg and still managed a third place finish and a spot in his third Mat Classic.

Cougs the favorite for District title
The Chewelah Cougars (17-3, 12-0) finished their regular season on a roll, going undefeated in Northeast A League play and now riding a 15-game winning streak into the NEA and Bi-District tournaments.
The NEA tournament got underway on Monday with boyâs games. Medical Lake traveled to Chewelah for a seeding game into the Bi-District Tournament. The top two finishers during the NEA regular season automatically advance to the Bi-District Tournament.
In NEA loser-out games, Newport was at Lakeside and Riverside visited Freeman.
