Guglielmino dominates—again

May 29, 2013

Northport senior wins three more

Northport High’s one-woman track and field team, Kassie Guglielmino, capped a brilliant high school career with a trio of titles at last weekend’s State 1A/2B/1B track and field championships at Eastern Washington University’s Roos Field.
Guglielmino’s accomplishments are mind-boggling. The diminutive senior, headed to Montana Western University where she will major in Equine Studies, has captured 12 state championships in those three years. That’s three a year for the math challenged.

Phillips wins
two more medals

Colville High senior Joellee Buckner, in her first season throwing the javelin, proved to be a quick learner last week at the State 2A Track and Field Championships at Mt. Tahoma High School (Tacoma).
Buckner, headed to Western Washington University to play volleyball, won the State 2A javelin by exceeding her previous best by six-feet, seven-inches and uncorking a throw of 137-11 during the second day of Star Track’s XXXI in Tacoma.

Indians finish
memorable campaign

Colville High (24-3) has finished another memorable fastpitch softball campaign, winning a school record 23 straight games before losing their opener in the rain-drenched State 2A softball tournament last Friday and Saturday at Carlon Park in Selah and ultimately finishing 2-2.
The Great Northern League and District 7 champion Indians didn’t open the tournament until 6 p.m. last Friday night because of heavy rain in the Yakima valley that drenched softball and baseball fields and sent tournament officials scrambling for Diamond Dry and pumps.

May 24, 2013

Meet will be in
Tacoma this week

The Great Northern League had little trouble pushing through its athletes at the so-called “Glue In” sub-regional meet with the Central Washington Athletic Conference (Districts 5-6-7) last Friday at Prosser High School.
A top four finish qualified GNL/CWAC athletes for the State 2A meet May 23-25 at Mt. Tahoma High School in Tacoma.
Of the 35 events run, the GNL was able to get two athletes or relay teams through to State in all but six events.

Kettle Falls’ season comes to an end

May 24, 2013

Bulldogs lose
a pair of games

Kettle Falls saw its 2013 fast-pitch softball season come to an end Saturday at Brewster in the Class 1A sub-regional (Bi-District).
The Lady Bulldogs, who finished second to Northeast A League champion Lakeside in the District 7 1A Tournament at Nine Mile Falls one week earlier, simply couldn’t get much going Saturday against either host Brewster of the CTL or Lakeside.
In their opener against BHS, Kettle Falls managed only three hits in a 7-2 loss. Hitting safely for KFHS were pitcher Krislin McInelly (double), Kelsey Eslick and Lauren Moak.

May 7, 2013

Colville will host on Thursday

Colville High (18-0, 19-1) will stay home this week to host second and third round games in the District 7 2A (Great Northern League) Tournament.
The league champion Indians, who annexed the GNL pennant by a whopping five games over second place Deer Park (13-5, 15-5), will host a Thursday second round game. CHS will oppose the survivor of the loser-out opener on Tuesday that pits GNL No. 4 East Valley (9-9, 10-10) against visiting GNL No. 5 Cheney (8-10, 10-10).
That game on Thursday at Dean Vaagen Park is scheduled for 4 p.m.
