4-H Shooting Sports Jamboree hits the mark

June 19, 2013

Archers fired arrows and clay pigeons were blasted from the sky during the annual 4-H Shooting Sports Jamboree June 13 at the Republic Gun Club shotgun and rifle ranges. More than 40 youth participated in the round-robin event, developing their marksmanship with shotguns, air rifles and pistols, and bows and arrows.
Three additional stations were added to this year’s event, featuring safety and hunter education in a ‘Jeopardy’ game show format, a 4-H hunting lesson, and a Challenge activity to reinforce gun range safety and etiquette.

June 19, 2013

Eleven teams competed in the annual Wildland Firefighters Scramble Golf Tournament at Dominion Meadows Golf Course earlier this month. This year’s tournament, which raises funds for the Wildland Firefighters’ Foundation, raised a record $3,800.
One of the tournament’s organizers, Al Garr, said that a team that had finished last in last summer’s tournament returned and took home top honors with a net 52.
The last place team from this year’s tournament won a free group lesson from DM PGA pro, Andy Hite.
