No âSpring Breakâ for
busy CHS
In a wacky, strange piece of scheduling and rescheduling that saw the streaking Colville High softball team (10-1) play seven games in an eight-day stretch during the so-called Spring Break, the Indians and rubber-armed pitcher McKenna Cabbage thrived.
Spring Break? Not for CHS.
The Indians, 9-0 in Great Northern League play and two games clear of second place West Valley and Deer Park, got shutout performances from Cabbage in five of those seven games.
It has been a tough stretch for the Colville High baseball team. The Indians (2-7) have lost six straight in the tough Great Northern League and head into the post-Spring Break portion of their schedule looking for a little Mojo and some good fortune.
âThe most important thing right now is that our team believes that weâre going to start winning soon,â CHS head coach Boo Morrison said of his teamâs rough stretch. âBaseball is a crazy game. Weâre not getting any balls to bounce our way right now and weâre not catching any breaks.
Indians may be the league surprise
Colville High (6-4) has been more than competitive to date in the rigorous Great Northern League 2A soccer race.
Yes, hindsight is always a 20/20 proposition, but just think where the Indians would be if they were situated where student enrollment numbers indicate that they should beâin the Northeast A League.
Like we said, hindsight and better accounting practices are always 20/20. Maybe the math will be more accurate on the next WIAA student count.
But we digress.
April 3rd
Colville idle until after the break
Colville High had no trouble last week beating Rogers High School 6-1 in Spokane.
The Indians swept the singles matches and won two of the three doubles matches.
In singles, Colville No. 1 Tessa Moore won in straight sets, 6-0, 6-0. CHS No. 2, freshman Darby Fox, also won in straight sets, 6-0, 6-0.
Sophomore No. 3 Taylor Little beat Sabrina Brown, 6-2, 6-1 and CHS No. 4 Cassidy Lindback beat Bidhya Bhandari, 6-1, 6-4.
In doubles, the Colville duo of Yelena Kalina/Alyssa Kinebaum downed Rogersâ Margaryta Iatchenko/Allie Hart, 6-1, 6-2.
Colville High (4-2) pulled off something the boyâs soccer program hasnât been able to accomplish in recent memoryâor ever. Beat Pullman on the pitch.
The Indians forged a 3-0 first half lead in the home match against the Greyhounds on goals by Filipp Susin (first minute), on an assist from Carl Johnston; Chris Benson at the 34-minute mark and Susin again three-minutes later (on an assist from Kris Griessmann).
March 20th
A busy week on tap
Colville High (1-1) split a pair of high school soccer matches last week to get the 2013 boyâs soccer season underway.
Back on March 12, Colville downed new Northeast A League member Medical Lake 4-2. On Thursday, another very good Cheney High team dispatched the Indians 6-0 on the Colville pitch. That match was the Great Northern League opener for both schools.

Colville will travel to Deer Park on Tuesday to face the Stags in a GNL match-up (4 p.m. start).

opens a few eyes
A Colville High track and field team that includes more than a few new faces this spring got the 2013 high school season underway last Saturday at the 16-team West Valley Invitational.
CHS head coach Ty Brown said that going into the mid-March shakedown cruise the goal was to get a feel for what the Indians have this spring as they embark on a new two-year adventure back in the Great Northern League.
Colville High hosted Chewelah and Northport in an impromptu three-team baseball Jamboree last Friday afternoon. The Jamboree, with each team playing three-inning âgames,â served as a warm-up for this weekâs schedule.
Colville opens the season on Tuesday at home when they host Great Northern League pre-season favorite East Valley in a single game (4 p.m. start) at Hofstetter Park. The Indians of head coach Boo Morrison travel to Deer Park for a GNL twin-bill with the Stags on Saturday (noon start). On Tuesday, March 26, CHS is at West Valley (4 p.m. start).
March 13th
Indians still have plenty of weapons
Colville Highâs high-flying softball program will look a little different this spring for a couple of reasons.
First, the Indians are back in the familiar confines of the 2A Great Northern League for at least a two-year WIAA enrollment cycle. And second, assistant coach Jim Ebel has been elevated to head coach after Mandy Sumner, who guided the Indians to the cusp of a State 1A championship the past two seasons, resigned. Gone with Sumner is her husband, assistant coach Rob Sumner.

By Colville High track and field coach Ty Brownâs recollection, itâs been several years since the Indians have been outside for pre-season practice sessions for day one.
Well, welcome to the relatively balmy spring of 2013 (so far).
Brown and the Indians will take it. It fact, CHS had glorious upper 50âs, bright sunny conditions for their annual Black and White inter-squad Jamboree last Saturday with Kettle Falls.
